On a weekend training trip with a group of friends, we dropped in to an open mat at Villanueva Grappling Arts, Six Blades and had a fantastic experience. Everyone was kind and welcoming. The vibes were off the charts. Great culture here. Professor Julio was awesome to roll with. Very technical and high level, but good at matching his partner’s level to what you need to have a valuable, challenging experience without feeling helpless and unable to work. Because it was open mat, we didn’t get to take any of the curriculum, but everyone there was technical strong and accommodating, so it’s clear the teaching on and off the mats is top notch. Obviously there are no shortage of BJJ gyms in San Diego, but if you’re looking for an intimate family vibe with top notch curriculum and encouraging culture, I’d highly recommend trying this academy. Thank you Professor Julio and everyone at Villanueba Grappling Arts!
I have been training with the Ribiero school for 4 years. My initial location was the University of Jiu Jitsu. Great instructors and the place was very clean. I only changed locations because of convenience (this school is closer to me). Julio is also an excellent instructor and maintains the same cleanliness, discipline, and positive energy of the University. He also trains at all levels, so whether you are a beginner or been training for some time, this would be a good place to sign up.
This place is great, the practices are well structured and the instructors are very friendly and patient. My son truly enjoys his lessons and looks forward to attending them. It's a welcoming environment for students of all ages and abilities. I looked at three other Brazilian Jiu Jitsu places before settling on this one. Really good group of instructors at this gym. It's a satellite gym of University of Jiu-Jitsu in Point Loma. Julio, the instructor, teaches at both locations.
I had the pleasure of taking my first class from Professor Julio this week. He has a clean facility with a group of students that create a welcome and safe training environment for all. I always look at a dojo’s kids program to assess their teaching. A vibrant kids program often is a great indicator that it is a good dojo to select for training. I hope to train more with them in the future when in San Diego. I can recommend Ribeiro La Mesa (and I already have to a family member) OSS!
One of the best schools in the area. The owner, Julio is an excellent black belt with a lot of knowledge and skill. He teaches both the kids and adult classes. He is wonderful with the kids. If you are thinking of getting your kids started in jiu jitsu, I would highly recommend this place. If you’re looking to start jiu jitsu or are looking for a new school, I highly recommend this place.
I’ve been coming here for a few months now and am glad I decided to enroll with Ribeiro Jiu Jitsu La Mesa. Professor Julio is a great teacher who got his black belt from Saulo and Xande Ribeiro, amazing lineage. The environment of the class is really inviting and focused. We also started my son in his kids class and it’s been great. We just started our journey but I look forward to the continued growth and development. Thank you Professor! RJJ pride!
