Both Leticia and Morango are great coaches. Leticia is exceptional at coaching kids not forgetting also with the adults. Good technical breakdown of techniques and training during adult classes. Coaches are always patience to answer any questions in the class and after. Good friendly vibes on the mats. Unlike schools that only offer one dimensional focus on sports jiujitsu. Gracie south bay offer the full jiujitsu experience : a wide range of learning through modern sport jiujitsu, old school jiujitsu and self defense techniques. Gym also have great facilities, cleanliness and a weight lifting area.
My 3 kids joined back in May 2025 and we have LOVED it here! Coach Leti and her team are LOVING, kind, polite, respectful and put their whole hearts in to training! Their incredible Brazilian culture shines through in their coaching. The coaches go around and shake parents' hands and truly care about how they are doing. If kids are having a hard time, they sit with them and go at the child's speed to come back to class; at no point do they ignore children's emotions or "just leave them" for parents to handle. All of the coaches are incredibly responsive to the kids' needs. And their privates are amazing too! Their pricing is similar to other places but they offer WAY more class options and have a ton of structure so every group class feels very productive! I cannot rave enough about this place!!!!
My children have been training with Gracie Humaita Southbay under Leticia Ribeiro for almost 2 years now. My wife and I are also training. There isn’t a better environment to learn bjj or self defense. Fabricio Camoes and Leticia Ribeiro are famous and decorated bjj and mma practitioners who trained directly under the founding family of bjj. Their experience and wisdom is unmatched. Moreover, they are some of the best people I know. They are dedicated and kind. They treat the kids with love and respect and command the same in return. I was riding with my daughter the other night. She said to me, “since you started training, you have been a better daddy and I think mama sees that too.” I couldn’t talk for a moment I was so choked up. I cannot recommend GSB highly enough. BJJ in general, but Leticia and Morango specifically, have been a true miracle. I only wish I could have started as a kid.
Gracie South Bay is a great place to learn Jiu Jitsu. The owner (Leticia Ribeiro) is great and they have excellent classes for both kids and adults. One thing I love is that there are almost 3-5 black belts on the mat teaching the kiddos every single day. Don’t be confused with the family friendly environment because the jiu jitsu taught here is competitive and the real deal.
So far I've had a very pleasant and welcoming experience with Murango, the morning beginners class instructor. The classes are physically challenging as someone with no meaningful martial arts experience and very, very rewarding. I definitely look forward to training here because rolling is a great way to start my day! And the Murango's support, along with the support of my new training partners, is equally uplifting!
This gym is more than a gym it's a family and if you go here you'll be welcomed as if you're coming home. Professor Leticia and Professor Morango are so invested into there students they are much like a second mom and dad. They genuinely care for their students and their friends. This is not just any other gym where you pay your monthly dues and get trained. You come here and you feel like you're one of the most important people in the world especially if you have anything personal going on in your life they'll make sure that you get the help you need. I love this place with all my heart
