Barum is one of a kind. They are so welcoming and loving. The facility is located in a naturally secure and well maintained campus. The instruction is amazing and the feeling at the academy is super nice, like the feeling you used to get on saturday mornings when you were a kid. The owner Alfredo and his wife Graziela run this academy like a Jiu Jitsu Academy deserves. The kids classes are super fun, safe, technical and motivating. The 6am class is filled with skill and diversity. The daytime classes are very challenging and skillfully delivered. The night classes make sure you fall asleep like a baby when the day is done. I've been training here since March after being off the mats for almost 4 years and I am very fortunate to have made this decision. Alfredo is a great instructor who conveys his passion and positive attitude on a daily basis. Everyone knows that the attitude of the dojo is a reflection of the instructor. Barum Jiu-jitsu is my home away from home where I can roll at 6am, noon or at 6pm everyday. Classes will have multiple black belts attending. You can train hard or just roll, no one will come off with your arm or foot. I'm 40 years old with a wife, 2 kids and have a client facing job. Thankfully I have Barum Jiu-jitsu to look forward when I need me time. Also, best open mat on Sundays in San Diego.
Barum is more than a Jiu-Jitsu studio, they treat everyone like family. My kids have been going for over a year and I’m always impressed at how patient, kind, and caring their instructors are. They command the respect and attention of all the kids with firm compassion when needed and provide a learning environment that’s fun, safe, and welcoming for students of all ages and skills. Their new facility is massive and such an awesome place for anyone to learn. For a such a physical sport, there’s never a shortage of smiles and camaraderie. Barum Jiu-Jitsu is amazing. From Day 1, everyone welcomes you like family. Alfredo creates an environment for learning and training for both competitors and hobbyists. The instructors have years of experience and the training partners are awesome! I highly recommend Barum to anyone interested in BJJ.
Amazing gym. Unparalleled instruction by Alfredo Barum. Multiple classes everyday. Lots of students, but never too many where you don't get personal attention from a black belt. Multiple black belts visit, train and teach so you get all kinds of styles. Low price, and never is there a market push like Gracie Barra. I lost 40 lbs in the first 6 months training here. There are hundreds of jiu jitsu gyms in San Diego. I wouldn't go anywhere else.
I have taken my two daughter many different places in San Diego for lessons of different kinds. This is THE place if you have kids. Their adult classes seem great also, but I have not tried them. Barum Jiu-Jitsu really is amazing. It it combines a caring atmosphere with great training. Look no further.
