I can’t recommend this gym enough, especially for anyone returning after a long layoff. I walked in after years away from the mats, feeling rusty and anxious, but the culture here made the comeback seamless. They offer a dedicated Intro/Beginners class that is perfect for sharpening fundamentals in a low-pressure setting. Once you’re ready to level up, the Advanced classes offer the intensity and modern technique needed to truly sharpen your game. Diverse Training Partners: The room is full of partners of all skill levels and athletic abilities. Whether you're rolling with a high-level competitor who pushes your cardio or a technical "old school" practitioner, you'll find someone who matches your pace and helps you grow. Zero Ego, High Respect: The higher belts are incredibly technical and helpful. It’s a room full of people who want to see you succeed, not "trophy hunt" the returning guy. A Family Atmosphere: While I don’t have childre
I dropped in at North Park Jiujitsu while visiting San Diego for a trip. I'm a current purple belt and have to say, this is a premier gym with a great space, great technique, and great players. Its a super friendly, chill training environment, where everyone is there to learn. Coach Mike was very welcoming when I arrived for no-gi and gi classes. There are classes where you drill specific moves, then have a chance to apply them in a safe, live setting. Then there are classes that take a more eco approach, with situation specifics, tasks, live problem solving with questions from practitioners and direct, tailored feedback from the coach. If you're new and looking to get into the art, a hobbyist looking for a more chill vibe, or a competitor wanting to test yourself and get out on the comp mats later, this is the place for you.
I’ve been training with Professor Mike and Paulete for over 10 years, and I can honestly say this studio feels like a second home. From day one, the environment has been welcoming, supportive, and motivating. The level of instruction is top-notch—Professor has a gift for breaking down techniques in a way that’s clear, practical, and effective on the mats. What makes this place truly special is the community. Everyone, from beginners to advanced students, is treated with respect and encouragement. It’s not just about learning jiu jitsu—it’s about growing as a person, building confidence, and being part of a family that pushes you to be your best. If you’re looking for a place to train, grow, and connect with amazing people, I can’t recommend north park jiu jitsu enough.
North Park BJJ has a family friendly welcoming atmosphere for people of any athletic ability. My daughter chose to continue here after a few introductory classes. She was 8. And she’s continued on into her adolescence. She inspired me to join. Jiu Jitsu is a great sport that’s practical in its approach and is a wonderful bond for my daughter and I. Along the way we’ve both made friends on and off the mat. North Park BJJ really has that special magic of community, learning, and friendship. And you learn to escape a choke. What’s not to love?
We absolutely love North Park Jiu Jitsu. I cannot recommend them enough, seriously. The coaches are incredible with kids — patient, encouraging, and truly invested in each child’s growth. We’ve seen our daughter slowly but beautifully blossom since starting. Jiu jitsu has reinforced discipline, respect, focus, and commitment in such a positive way. The structure and support they provide creates a safe space for kids to build confidence while learning valuable life skills. We are so grateful to be part of this community and highly recommend this program to any parent looking for something that builds both character and confidence.
I started training about a year ago, but I’ve been traveling a lot so it was hard for me to stay consistent. But every time I come back, everyone is always welcoming. The instructors remembered my name from day one, which made me feel really comfortable. Sometimes I struggled with confidence, but the people here always supported me. It’s a great community where everyone wants you to get better. I’ve learned not only jiujitsu techniques but also things that help in daily life, like being more disciplined, focused, and confident. I love North Park JiuJitsu so much, and I even moved to be closer to the gym! Hahaha
