I'm new to Knoxville and wanted to get into BJJ. This was the first gym I visited in the area. It was superior to any BJJ gym I'd tried where I used to live. I had intended to visit four BJJ gyms in Knoxville before making any sort of commitment. After 5 minutes at GB Knoxville, I was ready to sign up. The instructors are, of course, highly qualified, and they are also very welcoming and personable. As a woman in a mostly-male gym, I had some reservations, but the staff and students were all very appropriate at all times. The atmosphere at this gym is positive and enthusiastic. Instructors balance encouragement with constructive feedback. In particular Professor Dave is great to work with because he is so skilled at offering pointers in a way that is empowering rather than discouraging. Even the gym's owner and instructor is very personable, greeting friends as they enter and sometimes making a joke during a demonstration. Gracie Barra
We just recently moved to Knoxville. Jiu jitsu is a passion I share with my son, so as you can understand finding the right place is important to me.. With that in mind I did my homework well before our move. From the second I walked in, I knew I found the perfect place to train with my son. Mr. Samuel genuinely makes you feel right at home from the first second you walk in. It does not matter if he is on the mat rolling or what he is doing, he will drop what he is doing to welcome you. Most importantly don't forget the world class experience he holds! All I can say is just try it out, you will not want to train at any other place!!l
GB Knoxville is a great place to train and to learn Brazilian jiu jitsu. The atmosphere is as welcoming as the people. Samuel is an amazing instructor and takes time to demonstrate each new technique throughly. His lineage goes back to Carlos Gracie, jr and he practices what he preaches, which is evident by his 10 world championships. I would 100% recommend GB Knoxville to anyone, whether you are a beginner or a world class bjj competitor.
There’s a lot of BJJ gyms out there, and quite a few just in Knoxville… There is no instructor with the resume, the experience or the passion quite like Samuel. He is the real deal and he is welcoming of anyone and everyone who wants to learn, whether you are experienced or brand spanking new. He has created a very welcoming environment for guys and girls of any and every level to learn and get better. If you’re considering trying BJJ in Knox, give GB a shot and see for yourself!
I’ve trained here for almost 2 years and have loved every day of it. Great instructor and great school with clean mats. You can get a 30 day trial but after the first class you’ll definitely want to sign up as a permanent member. There’s so many classes you can find one to fit your schedule.
Gracie Barra Knoxville has been one of the greatest experiences I’ve ever had. Sam Braga is not only one of the best BJJ athletes of all time, but one of the greatest coaches I have ever had. Not once have I ever talked to someone who has not loved training here and grown as a better athlete and confident, dedicated person. I would recommended this gym to everyone!! No matter what size, skill level, or amount of confidence. You will become great at this place!
