I've been training BJJ, Muay Thai, and MMA here for over a year and I plan to stick around as long as I can. The instruction is top quality, and the people I train with, well they feel like family. No egos and no hot-heads. All levels of expertise are welcomed and the class-level range from beginners to competition. A lot of positive encouragement is given by both instructors and peers. I find the classes challenging and the instructors push you to improve. Check it out! Update: 4 years after I started with Stout, I am still training with them and plan to be with them until I can no longer physically possibly train (at which time I'll just hang out). My wife and 2 boys train here too. I am writing this in response to that one really negative review. If you read it and compare it with the other reviews, you will see that the reviewer's level of expectation was unrealistic for the type of gym Stout is. This is a real martial arts gym and
I have been training at Stout PGH for the past three years, and I can confidently say that it has transformed my life in more ways than I ever anticipated. From the moment I stepped onto the mat, I was not only welcomed into a supportive community but also embraced by an environment that fosters growth, discipline, and respect. The instructors at Stout PGH are truly exceptional. They bring a wealth of knowledge and passion to each class, ensuring that every student, regardless of skill level, receives personalized attention and guidance. Their dedication to teaching the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu goes beyond techniques; they instill valuable life lessons about perseverance, humility, and teamwork. One of the things that sets Stout PGH apart is the incredible diversity of its members. Training alongside individuals from various backgrounds and skill levels has enriched my experience immeasurably. The camaraderie and sense of belonging wi
Stout Training has an amazing youth BJJ program. My kids have been members for just over 2 years. My older child is in the 5-8 yr old class and my younger child joined the 4-5 yr class last year. The instructors are so good with the kids. The coaches are so dedicated, patient and encouraging. My kids love going to class every week. I've seen how much growth they've gone through learning new moves, applying it in live training and at home with each other! I hope they continue to retain these positive life skills. BJJ has even helped with their daily routines outside of class - improved self confidence and focus at school. For any parent looking for a new activity for their child, I would highly recommend giving Stout Training a try. They have locations in the Strip District and Cranberry Twp and offer 2 free trials.
I’ve been training at Stout Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Zelienople for 4.5 years, and it has truly been life-changing. Not only has it given me confidence and helped me focus on my health and wellness, but it’s also connected me with an incredible community of people who have supported me both in and out of the gym. The opportunities this place has generated for me and my family are beyond what I could have imagined. I’ve also been fortunate enough to start my oldest son in their youth program, which has been a fantastic experience for him. The flexible class schedules make it easy for both of us to train, even with our busy lives, and the instruction is hands down the best in the area. If you’re looking for a place to train that will not only help you grow physically but also as a person, I can’t recommend Stout Jiu-Jitsu Academy enough!
Great Instructors, Welcoming Community I don’t usually write reviews but felt compelled because of the excellent experience I’ve had at Stout PGH Zelienople. I’m still very new to Brazilian Jiu jitsu (no prior wrestling/grappling experience). Signing up with Stout was one of the best decisions I’ve made for physical fitness, self-confidence and fighting skills. The instructors are all great people, patient, and really supportive. It’s a very welcoming environment for everyone, regardless of skill level. I started doing jiu jitsu on a whim after signing up for Stout’s 40 and over intro course run by Warren Stout and John S. They are both awesome guys and really excellent teachers! Noon Gi and NoGi classes taught by Andy are also excellent! Go ahead and sign up for some intro classes - you won’t be disappointed. If you're looking for a martial arts gym that will challenge you, support you, and help you reach your goals, I highly recommend
Brown belt visiting from Austin: Facility: large main space, separate kickboxing space, really comfortable observation area for parents, huge locker room with showers, sauna, comfortable indoor temperature. And instruction: class follows the same general pattern as Austin affiliate, short warm-up, instruction., Followed by positional sparring. The professor was very proactive about finding specific ways to help individual students adapt techniques to their game which was very impressive because there were a lot of students in that instructor teachers a lot of classes. There are several other instructors but I only saw one other instructor from a distance, he was doing a great job getting children and teenagers to develop meaningful striking skills, which is very difficult to do. Atmosphere and gym culture: everyone was friendly and people seem to know each other well. Dropping in was easy and nobody was annoyed that they had to take tim
