I feel welcomed here. I joined just a few months ago because I wanted to learn self-defence. The first class is free, which is nice to test the waters. When I went for the free class, my heart was beating out of my chest. I was scared, and kept asking myself what in the world I was doing there when I'm almost 50 years old. I almost left but chose to face my fear and stayed. As soon as class started, coach Tim introduced me to the class, and I felt welcomed immediately. The students there helped with every move we learned. They included me in all their "reindeer games". I never had to stand on the side (unless I would have wanted to). I went and also tried a competitor's jiu jitsu class but they didn't make me feel welcomed. They did not loan me a gi, and I had to mostly just sit and watch them which all made me really stand out. This school is incredible. Truly. We have been so impressed with the teaching and coaching, the amount of content in each class, and the positive, welcoming environment! Everything is organized and efficient, the communication is fantastic, and the location is spotless. Our daughter was really, really struggling these last few months with her school closing again. She was withdrawn, lacking motivation, and often angry. Not anymore. We can see the spark in her eyes again, she shows gratitude again, she's kind and positive again, and she's engaged in something with purpose again. She has played soccer for several seasons and loves it, but that love is no comparison to how she feels about Jiu Jitsu. She talks about Jiu Jitsu every day, and counts down the hours until she can get on the mats. Gracie Barra is the Harvard of Jiu-Jitsu Academies. Coach Tim and the staff of GBBC are outstanding practitioners of the art and teach with mastery and passion. Kids, Teens and Adults of all walks of life will excell with the Curriculum and life skills that Jiu-Jitsu brings. My kids have been attending for almost two years now and it's changed their lives. Jiu-Jitsu is for everyone and Gracie Barra Beaver County is where everyone should go for Jiu-Jitsu.
Hands down the best Jiu Jitsu gym in the area. We have tried others and been underwelmed. Professor Tim and all of the coaches do an excellent job instructing in the large group format and then breaking it out into smaller groups and being able to work with kids in a more personalized way. Our kids have grown so much and become much more confident not only on the mats but off. The gym is clean and welcoming, and awesome people pouring into the students here!
Our son has trained with Coach Tim and the other excellent coaches at Gracie Barra Beaver County for 6 months and it has been and continues to be a rewarding and awesome experience for our son. Coach Tim & coaches are friendly and professional and teach the elements of jiu jitsu in a safe but competitive manner. We highly recommend Gracie Barra Beaver County to any youth or adult looking for a challenging program/hobby in a family-like atmosphere.
Update: I still drive a half hour each way 4 days a week(most weeks) to come to this gym. Coach Tim creates a welcoming, safe,and inclusive, atmosphere for students of all shapes,sizes,and skill levels. I am so happy I found this place. I have made so many friends, gotten my self back in shape. I recommend this place without reservation. Almost 6 years later I am still here. The culture at the gym is amazing everyone is so welcoming, our instructors are top notch and we go hard on the mats and still take care of each other. After a long day at work I look forward to getting to class and be with my people.
