FIVE STARS!!!!! We met Sensai Johnny at Cranberry Community Days in 2021. Our son was only four years old at the time. Johnny explained our son could come in for an assessment to see how he would react. There was zero pressure. Very nonchalant conversation. When we arrived to his first assessment, Johnny decided a few private classes would be best until our son felt comfortable with the lessons. After 4-5 private lessons our son gained a ton of confidence! He started taking classes with the other students and was the youngest at the time. Johnny is fantastic with incorporating life lessons into class such as self-confidence and courage. It isn't physical training only! The students' mental well being is greatly respected in these classes. Johnny is fair, passionate, an expert at his craft, and is actually a really cool, fun guy! 100% recommend Victory Martial Arts with Sensai Johnny at the helm! Very effective teaching for both of my kids. Johnny takes his time and works with them personally as much as needed. Always encouraging them and helping to motivate them positively and teaching good life lessons along the way. He works to teach the kids how to apply his teachings at home. Classes have themes such as confidence or goal setting. He will ask the students how they can apply that at home. An example he used was “what’s a good goal you can set for home, would cleaning your room every day be a good goal to set?” That’s just one of a thousand different examples. It’s great structure, great exercise, confidence building, and valuable life long lessons. I highly recommend and Sensei Johnny is excellent with the kids.
I have trained off and on with Sensei Johnny for almost 30 years. He is a very dedicated martial artist and his ability to break down the more complex techniques, so anyone can learn them, is second to none. While martial arts allows for us to learn self defense, the life skills that Sensei Johnny teaches at Victory are of even more importance. Though I am not able to train with Sensei Johnny as much as I would like, due to living in Virginia, I would strongly recommend that anyone that has the opportunity to stop by and see the magnitude of difference that Victory Martial Arts can bring to your child's life, to do so.
We highly recommend Victory Martial Arts to any family interested in signing their child up for lessons! Johnny does a fantastic job at creating a learning environment that is both positive and comfortable. He establishes a great rapport with all of his students and takes whatever time may be needed to assist them individually as well. Another aspect we find so beneficial is the focus on establishing a positive growth mindset. Students are introduced to a positive character trait & encouraged to demonstrate this trait in their daily lives. Victory Martial Arts is an all around supportive environment where the students and parents genuinely root for one another. We’re fortunate to have joined this group! =)
Sensei John is an AMAZING instructor. He is so patient with the students and I’m sure that’s hard seeing that they range from toddlers to adults. The dojo is great too, and has all the latest equipment. Our daughter has been going there from day one until her current yellow belt (she’s 5) and we will never go anywhere else. Highly recommended to anyone looking for quality training in a great environment with a great staff. Not to mention the sensei is the owner and a black belt himself!
