I was looking for somewhere to learn actual practical grappling for self-defense, and found Amir Academy. The instructor is friendly and very knowledgeable! The classes run 5 days every week, and the prices are reasonable. They do kickboxing, wrestling, judo/jiujitsu, and other MMA. The other students here are great, and the place seems very welcoming and accepting. There's a gym area for personal training, as well as a full boxing ring in addition to the MMA/sparring area - it's open late if you're a student, too, which helps if you have a tight schedule. As far as the training itself, they don't make it easy here: if you're looking for somewhere that hands out belts for free then this isn't it! What I've learned here has all been very practical and authentic. I've definitely enjoyed learning here, and I very much so recommend giving it a try! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
If you’re looking for somewhere to train to be the fighter or looking for somewhere for your child to learn martial arts, Amir Martial Arts Academy hands down is the best academy in Country. Amir’s academy has trained world class fighters and yet his approach is also adapted for molding children as young as 3 years old. Or maybe you just want to get in shape, men ,women, young and old are welcomed with open arms. It’s very difficult to put into words what Amir and his academy has done for me and my family. I started training with Amir in 1987 and having the privilege to train with him as child changed my life. My personal story is of a young boy who grew up with a special needs brother. We got picked on and bullied. My brother has been diagnosed with clinical Hydrocephalus and when we were kids Amir would also include my brother in our training without even charging my parents. My brother is severely mentally and physically handicapped
I’ve been to Amir Academy many times and continue to be impressed every visit. The classes are excellently organized and professionally delivered. Amir clearly puts a great deal of care into the structure and quality of instruction. The students are not only learning to fight but are doing so with discipline, focus, and respect. The facility itself is exceptionally clean and well-maintained, creating a positive and welcoming environment for both beginners and experienced martial artists. Over the years, I’ve seen Amir’s students actively participate in events like the Battle at Tampa Bay, which speaks to the academy’s commitment to developing skilled, confident competitors. I cannot express the amount of gratitude I have for Amir and his Academy. Amir’s exceptional reputation precedes him. I heard about Amir about 30 years ago from a neighbor of mine who was a very humble professional fighter, who had trained under Amir. So needless to say, when my 10-year old grandson developed a record of challenges in school with bullies and not knowing how to control his understandable frustrations, when not left alone. We knew he needed to learn better ways to diffuse situations and express himself, but didn’t know how to get him there. It’s a difficult situation when your child is being picked on and isn’t old enough to communicate verbally. By the grace of God, our family was directed to Amir’s Academy. We are very blessed that Amir teaches not only Marshall arts, but also the skill sets of how and when to defend oneself, conflict resolution, and learning to ignore and walk away from someone who is saying mean thing
This is the most caring and beautiful place for kids and adults alike. Master Amir and his sister are amazing. The jewel in the crown is Coach J (Jason Shoopak). This incredible guy teaches all the kids classes, with love, empathy and discipline. He lives to grow and impact each and every young soul, gives freely of his personal time to do so, in addition to the responsibilities within his job. A dedicated life's purpose in action. My five sons adore him. He will always have a special place in their hearts for his fun, strength, understanding and compassion that will last a lifetime.
I’m coming up on three months of training at Amir Academy and I am very happy with my experience being at the gym so far. The training/coaching staff is phenomenal and they are genuinely concerned with helping students grow not just in technique, but mentally and physically as well. After about three months I can say that the class community is competitive, and the other students are great and very welcoming. Awesome academy!
