I thought I was joining this place to learn jiu jitsu, I didn’t realize I was joining a family at the same time! It’s a great community of people who are all encouraging, super patient, and willing to help you learn. The three main coaches all have a slightly different style they like to play and they’ll help you figure out a style that works best for you. Coach Gonzo is great with kids too. From his patience with them to how he communicates with them it’s great to watch. I truly wish I would’ve joined sooner. If you’ve been on the fence about joining you’re going to regret not coming in earlier. It’s one price each month for any and all classes you want to attend so it’s definitely a great value on top of everything else.
As a coach, Coach Gonzo is consistently working to instill in the students (particularly the children) a strong work ethic, respect and self-respect, and determination and self-determination. He's supportive of everyone who walks in the door, and is conscientious of helping students capitalize on advantages and compensate for challenges. As a business owner, he strives to make the classes accessible from a scheduling perspective, run them on time, and if he's not personally running a class, he's ensured that a competent instructor is there in his place - Coach Nichole is one of the best "right hand" people I've seen in a while. Whether a BJJ hobbyist or a serious competitor, I'd readily encourage people to look into making Otomi part of their plan
My son has been training here for the past 8 months, and we couldn’t be happier with the experience. From the very beginning, Coach Gonzo made him feel welcome and supported, and it’s been amazing to watch his confidence grow week after week. He’s not only learning jiujitsu techniques but also important life skills like discipline, patience, and respect. Coach Gonzo has a special way of connecting with the kids and it’s clear how much he genuinely cares. The rest of the coaches are just as incredible always encouraging, attentive, and great with the kids. We’re so grateful to have found this place.
Our daughter (7) and son (5) have been at Otomi for 2 years. We are very appreciative of the instructional training that occurs BUT even more impressed with the behavioral expectations that are ingrained into the training. They are learning life lessons like respect, integrity, accountability, confidence, consequences and positive reinforcement. The first day in the gym our daughter wouldn’t step foot on the mat for the entire session and now (2 years later) she doesn’t want to miss a class. Our son is full of energy and silliness. Coach Gonzo does a great job of balancing fun and letting the youngsters know when it’s time to start working hard. We are happy to be part of Otomi Martial Arts.
I cannot express the gratitude I have for Coach Gonzo and his style. He is a master at teaching great morals, discipline and respect! His kids program is amazing. So many parents have expressed a positive change in their child's behavior and confidence after joining Coach Gonzos classes. And he's definitely taught me a ton as adult! The atmosphere is very welcoming and family friendly, come in to see for yourself! See you there! ☺️☺️😁🤙🤙🤙
Coach Gonzalez offers an amazing children’s program. My son, Jack, had a blast at camp this summer and couldn’t wait for camp to start every morning. Coach strikes the right balance between fun and discipline, and Jack developed a tremendous respect for Coach. Jack is 6 and has played in 4 different sports at various times of the year and Jiu-Jitsu is his favorite sport because of Coach Gonzales. The aides are wonderful, too. This has been a great experience for Jack.
