First class jiu jitsu — even better people. I waited a number of months to write this review, but from the first day it was evident Tabs is something special. It is not “just another gym in town.” I’ll just give a list of only some of the pros: - Experienced visitors come to the gym and complement the incredible culture and skill level of the competitive players. But it’s not all cut throat competition. I’m a bit of an older hobbyist, and I feel at home sharing mats right alongside the folks winning tournament medals. - The kids classes are incredible, fun for the kids but also teaching key skills at a level the children can understand. Uniquely, the kids classes are nearly always led by one of the gym’s three co-owners, usually Mo Black or Aaron. - Mo is elite and she is also jiu jitsu famous. People travel from all over the country just for the chance to train with her. Quick story: I was training at another gym while traveling (thous
My kids and I have been training here for the last year and half. The whole experience has been fantastic. They have a large group of highly experienced, respectable and approachable coaches. Each one brings a unique style to their coaching and techniques. Anyone that chooses to train here is going to receive an incredible value in return. My kids (age 9, 11 and 16) all greatly enjoy the environment as well. The kids classes are large and growing all the time. They have a great mix of games, technique drilling and live training. The facility is always in top shape and clean. The people here are always respectable and welcoming. Overall, Tabula Rasa is a gem amongst the options in town. Top tier.
Our family had been looking for a BJJ Gym to train out of for everyone to including my wife and our 7 year old daughter. Our first interaction with the Professors and Coaches had sold us on TABS! They were very welcoming, professional, and passionate about Jiu Jitsu and we knew right away that they had developed something special here. Finding somewhere with the right culture is key and TABS has “it”! Our friends from all over the country come here and train and echo the same message. 10/10 recommend TABS if you have a family, you are new, you are seasoned, you want to compete.. any flavor! They have it all.
My eight-year-old son has been training at Tabs for several years, and now all three of my children train here weekly. This gym is outstanding on so many levels, particularly for kids. The coaches and owners are genuinely incredible human beings who deeply care about the children’s development. They know every child’s name, communicate effectively with all age groups, and push kids towards excellence without risking burnout. For parents with a child eager to compete, Tabs is a top-tier gym that fosters their growth as a competitor. The owners and coaches have competed (and won) at the highest levels themselves, and know how to translate that knowledge effectively to kids of all ages and abilities. The selfish part of me doesn’t even want to write this review because I want Tabs to remain small, but frankly it’s too late: the secret is out and Tabs continues to explode because it’s a truly exceptional place.
This gym is really awesome. I have no experience with combat sports or Juijitsu what so ever, BUT I do know a good culture when I see one. This gym has a high priority on families and children. All of my children attend the classes on a regular basis. While the coaches do have a focus on learning skills, they have an even higher priority on character. The sportsmanship within the gym is amazing. All of the coaches genuinely care about their kids, both their improvement in the sport and them as a person. All of the coaches are knowledgeable and highly experienced. This gym is really so awesome. My kids have learned and grown so much being here for nearly 2 years.
I've had an amazing experience at TABS! The atmosphere is incredibly welcoming, and the coaches are top-notch—knowledgeable, supportive, and passionate about teaching. One of the standout features for me is the women's class and the strong community of women training here. It created a comfortable environment that made starting my jiu-jitsu journey so much easier. I highly recommend this gym to anyone looking to train, learn, and be part of a great community!
