After a home intrusion in 2022 I joined Cies MMA to increase my self-defense skills by adding Brazilian jiu-jitsu to my training. What started as learning a new skill and a way to continue kickboxing as a fun hobby to stay fit turned into gaining the confidence to compete, which I never imagined would happen. Coach Mike’s encouragement and dedication to teaching an elite striking system has played a huge role in my overall development and desire to compete. These past two years of training at Cies MMA have also given me the confidence to be able to defend myself against an intruder or other potential threats. As a bonus, they have strength training classes taught by pro-MMA fighter and BJJ brown belt Barb Ciesnolevicz that are specific to combat athletes, which have helped me build muscle necessary not only for strength but for injury prevention. I couldn’t recommend Cies MMA more! From beginner friendly striking and BJJ classes for kid
I’ve been going here for three years consistently and it’s a great gym. Mike is extremely knowledgeable as he’s been fighting his whole life. He wrestled in college, trained bjj under Sergio penha, and trained mma under pat miletich. This isn’t his entire resume but just to give you an idea. Mikes bjj classes are good for both the beginner and experienced student. His wrestling classes are a fast paced workout and informative. My kids do the kids classes under Barb and they have so much fun learning and rolling in a family friendly environment. It’s also the only mma/bjj gym I’ve found in the springs area with a full weight room.
Cies MMA is not only the best BJJ gym I’ve been to, it’s so good that I truly cannot imagine another place being better. I’ve moved around a lot, so I’ve been to three different martial arts gyms before Cies. Across these other gyms I found huge flaws: injuries were common due to lack of proper technique and egos, coaches were blue belts, there was limited variety (only gi or only no gi, no kickboxing, etc) and the few women training were outright ignored and often disrespected. When moving to COS, I had a list of ten gyms to try out to find a better fit. Cies was the first one I tried, and the only one I needed to. I signed up immediately. The coaching at Cies MMA is phenomenal. Coaches Mike and Barb are true experts in BJJ and MMA, and they will thoroughly break down techniques to make sure you really get it. I’d say the average week has a strong emphasis on fundamentals that builds up to more advanced techniques later in the class. T
This is a top level MMA Gym. I started training BJJ there six months ago and was amazed by the quality of the fighters. Coach Mike is very knowledgeable and helpful as would be expected from a former UFC fighter. There are other coaches who are also very helpful, and I take advantage of the private lessons they offer. Additionally, guest instructors like other former UFC fighters and military hand to hand combat instructors come for seminars which are awesome! The price is well worth it since there are multiple classes per day Gi and No Gi throughout the week that works with my erratic work schedule. There are also weights and workout equipment available when the gym is open. Jiu Jitsu offers a new challenge in life, and I think Cies MMA is the best place to learn, as there are many successful competition level fighters that also train there.
When I first started coming to this gym I had no prior experience. I first decided to join to learn self defense, little did I know that this gym would become my second home/family. Mike, the owner and coach, is one of the coolest, most dedicated coach I have ever met. He is highly respectable and demonstrates an extensive knowledge on BJJ, MMA, etc. He runs a safe, family friendly, and elite team. I fell in love with the sport of BJJ due to the awesome people and environment. I even began competing and did fairly well due to the high level coaching and all of the team members. This gym changed my life. I am forever grateful for all of the experiences and friends that I made while being here. Highly recommend!!
I’ve been training at Cies MMA for 6 months now. It has been an incredible experience. All of my training partners have been extremely friendly and welcoming. This gym is perfect for aspiring competitive athletes and hobbyists alike. Coach Mike has been awesome to train under. He makes sure to provide detailed instruction at every class and is always bringing in world class guest instructors for his students. The new facility is also world class. Best gym in the area by far.
