I had the pleasure of stopping in to train at CSBJJ's 6:30am class while traveling on 5/20. The class structure today was about an hour of rolls/sparring followed by 30~45 minutes of instruction and drilling. Students were encouraged to warm-up independently but upper belts were available to assist if necessary. The facility was very clean. The mats were cleaned upon arrival and cleaned upon departure. The gym had a neutral or "normal" smell, it emphatically did not have an odor some gyms have. The temperature was excellent to train in. Not too hot, not too cold. The mats themselves were pleasant to fall onto during takedowns or sweeps. I am a white belt in jiujitsu. When I rolled with the white belts it was a good exchange of mild to moderate intensity rolling focused on technique and position. Nobody tried to murder anyone and no one "spazzed." The upper belts, including a blue belt and several black belts at this particular class, we
Came to Colorado Springs during Spring Break '15 and went to this school to keep my training going. The instructors are great and super helpful. The other students made me feel welcome right away and not once did I feel like an outsider even though I was one. I had a really great time training, learning new drills and techniques and of course sparring. I had one-on-one time with the instructor which was really wonderful of him. The only downside is that there aren't many girls but don't let that stop you from coming to try it out. Like I said, the guys are all super nice and very easy to train with. The school really wants more girls and are even pushing for it by making tuition for females $25+ cheaper. So what are you waiting for? Go to Colorado Springs BJJ and be ready to learn the most useful and amazing martial art out there.
Excellent place. This place is "CLEAN". Bill has a very good systematic structure to his teaching, training, drills and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. There are also a wide variety of people with different styles to grapple. Bill and others there are always helping with your weaknesses and have good points to improve your Jiu Jitsu. I have been to several MMA fight gyms and Jiu Jitsu schools here, other states and out of country. This place is one of the best.
Out of the many jiu-jitsu places that I have visited and trained at across the nation, none compare to the service and technical skill that Bill Hosken provided at his place. He was very warm and welcoming and I really appreciated the help, advice, and many great stories that he provided while on a trip for a Judo tournament in Colorado Springs. He even came and watched the Judo tournament that was held at the Olympic Training Center! Bill Hosken is a great guy and great overall person that I'm glad I came across on my trip. I personally recommend his place over any other if you're looking to train BJJ.
I’ve been going here for 10 years and I love how welcoming it is for students of all levels. A lot of bjj schools are extremely strict on what moves you learn and when you are allowed to try out what you’ve learned, but not here. This school goes off of results because every fighter is different, but Bill and other instructors will teach anything you want to learn! And you can test your skills against the extremely skilled fighters at the end of every class! I’ve been through both the kids class and the adults class and both are excellent and worth checking out!
Flew into Denver for business and thought I'd sneak in a BJJ class in Colorado Springs. Glad I did! I scheduled a private lesson before classes with Professor Hosken and was not disappointed. The gym was clean, he was on time, and he even arranged for another student to join us as my practice partner. Very professional. Prof. Hosken was generous with his time, his information was top notch, and the vibe of the school was friendly and welcoming. Overall, a great experience.
