Rocha Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is an amazing school with world class instructors. After spending time searching and researching a few schools, we came across this one. My daughter started BJJ here a year and a half ago and since then her confidence, athleticism and problem solving abilities have greatly improved. Her instructors put time and energy into each student giving them the confidence and skill they need to compete at any level. Due to the atmosphere and team spirit, my older daughters and I started training here as well. They offer top notch kids, adult beginners, adults advanced, kickboxing and women’s classes. As a woman and mother it can be intimidating to start something new but the women’s class on Sunday will make you feel comfortable and confident and is a judgment free zone. Overall this school isn’t just a training facility, it’s a family environment!
My name is David Meyer and I am one of the first American’s to ever earn a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I have taught hundreds of seminars and trained in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu schools all around the world. I take every chance I get to recommend and to train at Rocha Jiu Jitsu. Professor Eduardo is a true master. His knowledge and ability to teach is simply the best you can find, and he also builds true internal and external strength in his students. It is unusual to find someone who can teach such a great class, and can also win world championships himself. I highly recommend this school to anyone who is serious about wanting to improve themselves and learn BJJ.
Six Blades Oakland is hands-down one of the top jiu-jitsu academies in the entire San Francisco Bay Area 🌟🥇 The energy here is unreal—driven, focused, and welcoming. You’re surrounded by people who are serious about rewiring their bodies and minds for the smoothest, most effective jiu-jitsu flow. What really sets this place apart are the small, technical subtleties being taught—things that completely change your game. The kind of details you pick up here would take months (if not years) to uncover at bigger academies, where you rarely get that kind of personal attention. There’s a real sense of lineage, integrity, and mastery on the mats, and the instructors truly see their students. That kind of guidance is rare. I’ll absolutely be back—and I can confidently say this place is a gem for anyone serious about evolving in the art.
Strengthens Mind and Body (and it's FUN!) The instruction is clear, the classes are well structured, and the environment is welcoming and professional. Great for all levels! My detail-oriented brain craves to know the “why” behind every move, so it’s wonderful that the teachers are very specific from the onset. Many of the students are training to compete and they’re in class several times per week. For the first couple of weeks, I had pre-class butterflies, but I kept coming back because the people are genuine, helpful and friendly. I’ve been at the gym for more than a year now. While I might still wheeze and struggle during the basic conditioning workouts, I am getting stronger and learning a ton! I’m a 5 ft. tall, 100 lb. adult female with a background in dance, but zero martial arts experience. I was initially scared to join, as I have asthma and autoimmune issues, but through this gym and the encouragement of the teachers and stude
This is a great academy with top level instruction. I started training here about six months ago as a blue belt with some gaps in my game and feeling plateaued. I really felt myself improve once I started training here. What I enjoy most is the very technical instruction. Eduardo has learned from and trained with the best. He has cultivated a training environment that is very welcoming, and the rest of the students are very respectful and great to work with, offering sound advice and technique help when needed. Rolling with one of Eduardo's brown or black belt students is a humbling experience and a testament to the quality of instruction. I tried several BJJ gyms in the bay area and am glad to have ended up here.
The instructors and students at Rocha Jiu Jitsu are all friendly and courteous. I personally am not gifted in jiu jitsu or grappling by any measure, so it was great that the instructors were very helpful when I wasn't getting it. I think the fundamentals class in particular is exactly the type of class that every white belt should be taking. Overall, great place to train.
