10th Planet Oakland Jiu Jitsu is probably the best Jiu Jitsu academy in the entire Bay Area, for real! The gym has a super welcoming environment and all of the instructors knowledge of Jiu Jitsu is unbelievable! Michael Hillebrand is one of the best coaches I've ever met. He is super dedicated and loyal to his team. He even helped coach me to winning an IBJJF Pan NoGi Title this year! I can't wait to get back up to Oakland and train with these guys again! If you live anywhere near this gym and want to train Jiu Jitsu, this is the academy for you! I can not recommend 10th Planet Oakland Jiu Jitsu enough!
Mike is an extremely caring coach and person. He simply wants people to understand and enjoy Jiu Jitsu and it shows in the way he coaches and relates to his students. Rather its your first class or you have been training for years this school offers something for everyone. The school is clean the students are friendly and the instruction/training is top notch. I would recommend this school to anyone who looks to improve at Jiu Jitsu or simply get in shape. Mike has created a wonderful community of practitioners and I guarantee you will be welcomed and enjoy training at Tenth Planet Oakland.

My son has been taking the kids' class, Ages 4-7, for about two weeks now. The coaches are very patient and informative. The student-to-coach ratio helps keep all the kids engaged throughout the entire training. I can see why this gym is so successful. Five stars for sure!! These were the main reasons why I signed up my kid: -Very Accomplished and Professional Staff -Good student-to-coach ratio -Very Clean Gym (no shoes/slippers on the mat, good airflow, and no foul stench) -Easy Parking
I have been training at 10th Planet Oakland for 2 months and could not be anymore pleased. The coaches and the other members are phenomenal humans who have been super supportive in getting me started. My personal preference are the am classes due to fewer people which allows for more personal attention. Also my 8 year old son is now training here and I'm excited to learn and grow with him in this environment. Just this week we found out that the gym will be moving into a larger location just a few blocks away which I'm super excited for. All that to say I'm proud to be a Savage! *** The new location is beautiful!! Again I can't say enough about the quality of people I meet here. It's a direct reflection of Professor Hillebrand (owner/head instructor).
