I moved to the Bay recently and was looking for a Brazilian jiujitsu gym to train at. After looking around for a bit I stumbled upon Armada MMA, and I am so happy I did. I have trained at many gyms, as I have moved a fair amount. But I have never trained at an academy that is as well rounded as Armada. Not only is it an amazing Brazilian jiujitsu gym, but it offers a wide array of other martial arts. Wrestling, Judo, Muay Thai, MMA. And all for a similar cost to what you would get at a standard, stand alone BJJ gym, so it is a fantastic value. When first attending a new gym you never know exactly what you are getting into. Will the community be welcoming? Will the training be good? Will I come into contact with strong egos? Might I get hurt? Or will partners find the balance between competitiveness and care? But once I arrived at Armada all of the worries or concerns went out of the window. Not only was coach Omar incredibly accommodati
I have been training under head coach Omar for just over a year after getting my start at another MMA gym. In my short time training MMA, I have taken classes at 6 different gyms with various coaches and Coach Omar’s attention to detail, knowledge of martial arts theory, and ability to translate the biomechanical rationale for a technique are unparalleled. In addition to benefitting from his expertise, the gym is blessed with other black belt and brown belt instructors in judo and jiu jitsu with decades of experience among them, all of whom continue to hone their craft training locally and internationally. Aside from the instruction itself, I love this gym for several reasons: 1. This is not a revolving door of beginners. The members are a dedicated group of practitioners that come to class with intent to grow, learn, and support others in the process. This accelerates learning for everyone, especially when a new member joins. 2. All of
Great place to train. Expert coaching, great community, broad range of classes, and welcoming gym! A few years back I decided I wanted to finally start training and looked at multiple gyms in the East Bay. There are many excellent places, but this one stood out for the reasons above. Perhaps the most important thing about any sort of training is consistency, so finding a place that you will get to on a regular basis is critical. For me, that meant finding a place that felt friendly and welcoming, offered the classes I was interested in at times that were convenient, and was easy to get to. It can be intimidating showing up to an MMA gym when you don't have any prior training, but the coaches and other people here made me feel welcome and its a very friendly community with a big range of people from many diverse backgrounds. The coaches are all very accomplished. The schedule allows me to train before work. And I wanted to learn both tra
Wonderful coaches, community, and facility. When I first moved back to the Bay, I was on the hunt for a new martial arts gym. I tried three other Muay Thai gyms before finding Armada. After my first class, I was hooked and knew I had found my place. After a while of exclusively training Muay Thai, I tried a Jiu Jitsu class. I originally had no interest in rolling around with sweaty people but Omar’s knowledge and passion for the sport was so palpable that I knew I had to at least give it a try. Once again, I was hooked. With highly accomplished and friendly coaches, you will receive top tier instruction. This gym has a great community and is welcoming whether it’s your first day on the mats or you’re a seasoned competitor. As a woman, I really value that there is a good group of other women that train here. There’s Gi and No Gi Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai, MMA, Wrestling, and Judo. Can you ask for more?
I’m on my 3rd month with Team Armada and I don’t regret my decision on training at this dojo. Sensei Omar (Head coach/Owner) is dedicated on improving the Mixed Martial Art skill set of his students wether your a beginner, intermediate, or advanced. He not only trains his students during his working hours on regular class schedules, but goes above and beyond to train on weekends with the team and takes us out on Runs/Conditioning sessions. The Rest of the coaching is staff is filled with experienced professionals. Mentors you can rely on. On top of all this this dojo offers competition events for you to practically apply what you’ve learned and compete.( So Far I’ve attended two and all our competing fighters were champions!) I love the cleanliness of this dojo, the welcoming atmosphere, and loyal/dedicated students this dojo has to offer. Come join and be apart of this wonderful team that I am grateful to be apart of. TEAM ARMADA!!!!
I trained for a few days as a traveler and this gym made the last week of my stay. Professor Omar’s teaching style and leadership does not miss a beat; Sophie at the front desk was helpful and refreshingly welcoming in getting my first class set up; Terrell, a new instructor there also upheld the welcoming culture and high standards of the dojo in his Muy Thai instruction, kindness and work ethic. The general vibe of the dojo was very sociable, community oriented and respectful. The facility is clean, and includes a shower and spacious bathrooms. Highly recommend this place to anyone curious or who loves Brazilian Ju Jitsu or MMA. I’ll be back! 🙏🏽
