Tucked among the many great spots at Bayhill Shopping Center, Charles Gracie San Bruno stands out as an exceptional jiu jitsu academy. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in learning martial arts. The instructors are not only knowledgeable but also excellent at teaching in a way that is clear, encouraging, and easy to follow. The staff is just as welcoming and supportive. The academy is always clean and well organized. They provide changing rooms, cubbies for your gear, and water dispensers. The facility is cleaned and sanitized after every class, showing their strong commitment to hygiene. Foot sanitizer and wet and dry mats are also available before stepping onto the mat to keep the space fresh and safe. Checking into class is simple with the Wodify app, which also tracks your progress. As someone completely new to the sport, I was nervous going in—but from the very first day, they made me feel comfortable and supported. Professor Chris sets the tone for the entire program. His leadership, experience, and calm but strong presence really create a space where you feel both challenged and empowered. Professor E brings an energy that’s focused and motivating—he breaks down techniques in a way that builds real confidence. Coach Marvin is super engaging and explains things clearly, which is so helpful when you're still learning the basics. And Coach Elaine’s warm-ups? We have been sending our 4 year old to BJJ here for a couple months now and the experience has been amazing. The professor is a natural with kids, you can tell how much he really loves teaching the little ones. The classes are always framed in an age appropriate way and my son is totally engaged. We drive past other BJJ studios just to have the professor teach my son.
Coach Chris is very patient and friendly to kids. He is also willing to carefully demonstrate basic techniques. New gym. Recommend. Our kids start with free trials and both enrolled and are quite engaged.
I was dropping in from out of town, and had a great time! The 90 minute class started with some great conditioning exercises, and then we went into technique. The rolls were also great, no spazzing. Because they're a fairly new gym, they mostly had white belts attend. As a blue belt, they were still good and challenging rolls. The vibe of the gym overall was very wholesome.
We have enjoyed bringing our son in twice per week. My son loves going and the owners are the nicest people. Thank you for creating a space for me to take my child!
