The Coop is an amazing place to train Jiu Jitsu! It’s a great community filled with quality training partners and tons of experienced and knowledgeable people who really care to help you learn and grow. It’s a very welcoming and supportive training environment. There’s also a women’s class that is a great way to meet other women who are passionate about Jiu Jitsu and train together.
I’ve been training at the Coop for a little over a year. I arrived as a freshly minted blue belt and was amazed to find a whole room of black belts that were really generous in helping me to evolve and iron out the flaws in my game. There’s now a multitude of belt levels from white through to black so you can get a decent roll at all stages of your development. The gym is very open about letting all levels roll together, which definitely speeds up the learning curve but you can also ask people to avoid certain areas (legs etc) or go easy if you’re not well versed or are looking to go slow. The Coop also encourages members to train how they like, there’s a regular cohort of both gi and no gi training partners every day and there’s no voodoo rituals or bowing to the ‘masters’ etc that you find at other gyms. All round it’s a great gym and a solid hang off the mats as well with many voluntary gatherings and watch parties etc.
The best! Huge shoutout to Emily who teaches the womens class on Sundays which has been such a game changer for me! It’s fantastic to have this kind of community and incredible instruction. She brought together a lot of wonderful people from all over LA ♥️ The Coop is exactly the kind of training I was looking for and I feel really lucky to have found it. It really is set up so everyone can train in the way that’s best for them. There are workshops before the week night open mats - shoutout to Sean too for being another killer teacher! - and everyone is so willing to give advice and answer questions.
Really enjoying my time at the coop so far! Love that there’s a women’s class on Sundays too! It’s difficult to find a group of women who train on the westside, so it’s awesome they have coach Emily bringing a community together. Would be great if they had more women classes or women led classes during the week. Please add more gi classes too! This may help bring in more women students who have been interested in signing up.
Coop BJJ is hands down the best places to train. The space is always super clean, the mats are great, and the atmosphere is welcoming for everyone. Howard is awesome to roll with knowledgeable, patient, and always makes training both challenging and fun. You can tell there’s a lot of pride in how the studio is run. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a great place to train!
Great place to train with a great group. Everyone is very welcoming and always willing to share techniques. Largest quantity of black belts of any gym I’ve ever trained at. The Coop has a very high level of competition while still maintaining great camaraderie amongst the members. Many opportunities to train both gi and no-gi with a primary focus on live training. I highly recommend The Coop!
