If I could give 1,000 stars to Delta BJJ, I would!! Delta BJJ is truly the best brazilian jiu jitsu academy here in West Los Angeles for adults and kids! The owner, Gerson, is masterful and simply the best all around. He and his wife Carina are absolutely the nicest people in the world and run a beautiful dojo here in Culver City. Gerson really cares and is passionate about teaching the martial art of brazilian jiu jitsu to all of his students, especially the new ones...the white belts!! He also has a host of other black belt instructors that are wonderful too. Although I am not a kid any longer (haha!), I've seen his youth classes and his bjj instruction to the kids is unsurpassed. And it's the same with his teenager classes as well. As for beginner adults (like me) I cannot speak highly enough of this bjj academy. Gerson, and his other instructors, really care about the progression and advancement of your personal bjj skills. And they
While I live in Connecticut, my partner lives in Los Angeles and I visit often. Wanting to be able to train while away from home I found Gerson's, and I am incredibly happy I did. I have trained at many gyms, as I have moved a fair amount. But I have never trained at an academy that is as well rounded as Gerson's. When first attending a new gym you never know exactly what you are getting into. Will the community be welcoming? Will the training be good? Will I come into contact with strong egos? Might I get hurt? Or will partners find the balance between competitiveness and care? But once I arrived at Gerson's all of the worries or concerns went out of the window. Not only were he and his wife incredibly accommodating and welcoming, but so was everybody within the gym. As an instructor and teacher Gerson is incredibly detail oriented. Not just as it relates to technique, but as it relates to each individual within the class. He is observ
I started at this school about a year ago and WOW what an experience! I highly recommend that you, at least, visit Gerson's Brazilian jiu jitsu academy for the following reasons: 1. The instructor, Gerson, teaches every move with passion and with lots of details, gives a fair amount of attention to each person for every drill, and gives a lot of constructive feedback when doing something incorrectly. 2. You will find awesome training partners who train safely and technically, but hard and tough at the same time. 3. If you are looking for a competition team, this place has tournament fever. There usually is someone who is competing so you can go compete together. 4. The mats are cleaned at least 2x or 3x a day. 5. People are clean here. I don't smell that nasty funk on people's gi's like I did at other jiu jitsu academies. Also, everyone wears a rashguard so you don't have to worry about people rubbing their sweaty chest/stomach hairs on
I traveled to LA for the week and met Professor Gerson by chance. He invited me to train at his academy and it was a great experience. Not only is the Professor a very skilled, well-known, and highly respected member of the Jiujitsu community, he is also very friendly, patient, and generous in his approach, making sure each student is able to grasp and follow the techniques he’s presenting, from beginner to advanced. His teen class was leaving as our class began and I noticed each of them seemed confident, happy, and respectful. There were also several women in our class, which is not always common in other academies. I take it as a good sign that each of them were comfortable and skilled. The overall atmosphere is very welcoming and the training environment feels exciting and encouraging. The academy itself is organized and very clean with ample facilities, including a bathroom, shower, and changing rooms. I’m very grateful to Professo
This review is 11 years overdue. I started at Delta BJJ back When it was GSBJJ and now Delta BJJ. This place has blown up over the years due to its leader Gerson and his wife Carina. They are a power couple and devote their lives to teaching and training not just BJJ but core values. I love this academy because it's competitive as hell but also very welcoming and family friendly. They have a large kids class a large female group and some really talented fighters. There is absolutely zero drama. Everyone wants to help everyone. I've never seen a group of people be more supportive of one another and that's because of the example that Gerson sets and his unmatched leadership. If you are considering joining don't hesitate he'll give you a loner gi and let you try his class before you commit. Once you start you will not regret it. It changed my life. THANK YOU GERSON AND CARINA!
I was in a tough place in my life. Divorced, two young kids, working full time, and had to move out of my condo because I couldn't afford my mortgage, child support and alimony all at the same time. I had gained 20+ pounds from unhealthy eating habit I had developed and had zero motivation, not just for getting in shape, but all else in life. Honestly, at times, I wanted to quit. Give it all up and give in. I had driven by GSBJJ academy hundreds of times on my way to work and back home. I clearly remember one Saturday when I walked in with my kids just to check it out, but mostly to kill some time. Gerson asked me to come in and try a class. That was almost 7 years ago and I've been there ever since and I have zero intentions of quitting any time in the future. My kids also train with Gerson and probably one of the best decisions I've ever made for my kids as far as self defense and discipline. The level of instruction and emphasis on t
