I am no expert in jiujitsu but the teaching seems decent quality. However, the coaches do not foster enough of a culture of discipline and respect (kids ages 7-10). Kids talk while the coaches talk (and then the coaches have to raise their voices). Kids swing their belts around and the belts sometimes drag on the floor when the kids are holding them. Kids don't 'bow out' and in to the mat. They often don't pay attention to the coaches. They do not respond with strong 'sirs' and 'maams' to the coaches and helpers. I suspect a lot of this is due to how this gym is a business machine. Their classes are stuffed with kids. It is standing room only for the parents. It might be harder to have a culture of respect with so many students and possibly so much 'churn' in students. They also might not want to come down too hard on the kids for fear of upsetting the oarents and losing revenue, but that is speculation. Also, it is likely harder to com

My family and I have been training at Gracie Barra Northridge for over two years now, and it has truly become a second home for us. The coaches, professors, and staff are nothing short of amazing. They don’t just teach jiu-jitsu as a form of self-defense, but as a way of life. The discipline, respect, and mindset they instill go far beyond the mats. My two sons have both put in a lot of hard work here, and the coaches have been incredible in guiding them. One of my sons is a competitive tournament golfer, and jiu-jitsu has played a huge role in building his confidence, focus, and mental toughness. My other son has competed in multiple jiu-jitsu tournaments and has earned medals while proudly representing Gracie Barra Northridge. As an adult, I’ve also been training for two years, and the impact has been profound. I’ve gained a deep respect for the art of jiu-jitsu, and the growth hasn’t just been physical. Mentally and emotionally, I’m
Gracie Barra Northridge has it all, for everyone. For parents, your children learn Brazilian jiujitsu (bjj), discipline, and self-control from amazing instructors. The instructors help them to develop into terrific young adults, while learning critical life skills. For the ladies, it can be intimidating stepping out of your comfort zone. But Gracie Barra Northridge offers a women's class that is welcoming, which makes it very ideal. Applicable to everyone, it's a great workout, at worst; and you may become a world champion, at best. They offer morning, afternoon, and evening classes to suit your schedule/needs with both gi and no gi classes. They also offer kickboxing classes. The staff are high-level instructors/competitors and incredibly friendly, so you are always motivated to learn. For those familiar with bjj, this is the perfect environment with great people to train with.
Gracie Barra is a great place to train at! If you have kids, have them try a class, you won’t regret it. My son started at age 9 and loves it here, we come from another Karate dojo that had a decent kid’s program, but the pay structure was ridiculous. Karate places will charge you for every little thing the tests, belts, equipment, multiple uniforms, weapons, and the monthly fee. At Gracie its one monthly fee and that’s it! The teachers are top notch, shout out to instructor Jason, one of the best! The kids program teaches kids life’s essential values while learning an awesome & effective self-defense. I was so impressed by the kids program I decided to try training. I thought I might be too old starting at 43 but nope! The adult class has been a life changing event for me, GB feels like a second home, great instructors, and family like environment. I would recommend it to anyone who is even a little bit interested. I dropped in from another school. I attended the 12:30-1:30 all levels GB1/GB2 class. The class structure was short GB warm up, drilling, situational drilling with multiple rounds of sparring at the end. Im a white belt and had the oppurtunity to roll with a lot of there upper belts here. Had a very good workout. The mats are clean and spacious, the bathrooms are top tier. The showers, lockers, private bathroom were all very well kept. Drop in fee is $50. Professor Romulo is world class and he is very engaged with the training, walking around and making sure the students are doing the drills and techniques properly. The front desk is very welcoming. Overall. This is a world class school with a world class teacher. definitely worth the $50 and I will be dropping in a lot more often.
