Great gym. Great people. Very glad we enrolled our 5 year old daughter. Professor Joel and all of the assisting coaches are great with the kids. They enforce discipline while still demonstrating a ton of patience and providing lots of positive feedback and encouragement. They've got a really nice system of skill demonstrations with practice and skill building games to help retain attention throughout class. My daughter loves it here and there's no question that she's benefitting physically and mentally from attendance. The fee schedule is an excellent value as you are able to attend multiple classes weekly. Also, this gym is CLEAN. Really. Clean clean. I'm a mom of 4 and over twenty years we've done a lot of shoeless activities from various gymnastics and ninja classes to other martial arts. Professor Joel's gym not only always smells fresh and clean, but these kids come off the mat after rolling around for an hour in a white gi, and th
Disregard the 1 & 2 stars reviews. They are totally opposite my experience thus far. I have trained in a lot of places. I took a 7 year break from the sport and was excited to see this come to my neighborhood. I decided to try a free week with my son. There were 4 instructors on the mat and they all had SO much patience with the young kids. My son is not easy to deal with and I was Impressed with their demeanor and attention to him. I decided to join for myself. Professor Joel and his team have been a godsend. This place feels like home and the people are top notch. I have been through several open mats and classes, but Professor Joel and his team focus on details that matter. If you are apprehensive about starting the sport, then this is the place to start your journey. If you need community and belonging this is the place. If you are concerned about your children learning or needing patience, this is the place for them to start. Hope
I’ve been training at Gracie Barra for two years, and it’s been an incredible experience. The professors are highly knowledgeable and do a great job balancing technical instruction with athletic conditioning. Every class feels structured and purposeful, and I’ve learned so much about both the art and the sport of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. One of the highlights for me is the Saturday competition training. These sessions are intense, and everyone pushes hard, creating an environment that’s both challenging and motivating. It’s the perfect mix of technique and a great workout. If you’re looking for a place to grow your skills, stay fit, and be part of a supportive community, I highly recommend Gracie Barra.
My son just started a few months ago, but I could not be more pleased with this gym. The coaches are amazing - very attentive, supportive to the kids but also firm and teaching good discipline. The class size is good and even on days where there are more kids, they still give individual attention to all the kids. They take time demonstrating the moves to ensure the kids understand the moves and help them execute. We went to a few different places before picking a place to start this new sport for my son, and at other locations I felt uneasy about his safety and the quality of instruction, but I don’t have that concern here. The gym is also very well kept and clean. Cannot recommend it enough.
Can’t say enough about our great experiences at GB Research Forest. Our 11 year old has been attending for just over a year and loves it. Coach Dylan leads most of the classes my son goes to and he’s fantastic. Lots of learning and enough fun that he always wants to go back. The whole staff have been nothing but welcoming since day 1. Highly recommend to everyone. There are always new students starting and from the coaches that do waivers and paperwork and answer all the parent questions to the coaches on the mat to the owner, everyone is always super welcoming.
Really good gym. Professor Joel is a great teacher. Super nice matts. The people are awesome, friendly, and positive. I’ve enrolled my kids because is such a good positive atmosphere. It’s very safe. Jiujitsu is a contact sport so there’s always the opportunity for injury, but the instructors are always watching carefully and keeping people safe. I would highly recommend Gracie Barra Research Forest to anybody who is interested in jiujitsu.
