I’ve trained at many jiu-jitsu gyms around the world, and Renzo Gracie Lakeway is as good as it gets. The instructors are incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and skilled, offering world-class instruction that holds up in any gym, anywhere. The training partners are friendly, welcoming, and always ready to push you in a safe and fun way. The facilities are clean, well-maintained, and provide a great environment to train. Austin has become the jiu-jitsu capital of the world, and you can feel that energy here—it’s tapped into that same level of excellence. Whether you’re new to the sport or a seasoned practitioner, this is the perfect place to train hard, learn, and grow. Highly recommend!
Amazing gym and community. I have been a member for just over a year and had dropped into several bjj/grappling gyms in the past but never quite felt welcome. This place is incredibly welcoming, has a great culture, and a phenomenal collective of people and instructors. The lead instructor (Ricardo) has extensive bjj/grappling experience and takes an extremely methodical approach to his instruction, carefully balancing the physical, mental, and technical aspects of grappling (all of which required in a high degree to be successful). There is a good distribution of belt levels amongst students so don’t feel intimidated if you don’t have experience as there are many white belts (myself included) who will welcome you on the mats. What surprised me most, however, was the number of higher ranking belts who were immediately welcoming and willing to train with a beginner, offer advice, guidance, and above all else there time. If you are thinki
If you’re reading this then it’s time for you to make the jump! TRY IT!! I felt pretty comfortable, maybe more comfortable than most being able to defend myself and those around should the time ever come to do so. I went in and was immediately humbled in the best way possible with the best community possible. I’ve trained with doctors, teachers, ex military, and just everyday people from all walks of life. There is no age group that I haven’t trained with as well! Jiujitsu changed my life forever and for the better, but I’m not sure it would’ve been as far a long if it wasn’t for the community of people you get to train with and Renzo Gracie has some of the very best people you’ll ever meet! Everyone should be training jiujitsu! EVERYONE! Commit to something, you won’t regret it!
Gracie Barra Lakeway is a great place for community and BJJ. My son has now been training for over a year and still enjoys it very much. Professor Ricardo does a great job being responsive, communicating and delivering exciting classes for all of his students. Professors Alex, Anne and Brian also are amazing and genuinely enjoy educating others. After several months of seeing my sons competency improve on the mats I decided to start. Wow I didn’t know what I was missing. Now it’s an addiction. The community they have developed is fanatic and supportive for everyone to grow both on the mats and outside the classroom. I’m addition to Gi and No-Gi classes they also offer supplemental instruction into Judo and Wrestling. We are lucky to have these fellow students who have mastered these arts part of our community. I encourage everyone to get their families involved and start the journey with Gracie Barra Lakeway!
I joined this gym about a year ago with zero experience, originally just bringing my daughter who had already been training for six months. Watching her train motivated me to step on the mats myself, and I’m really glad I did. From day one, the coaching was patient, detailed, and welcoming to someone brand new. The environment strikes a great balance — serious about training, but supportive and ego-free. Over the last year I’ve grown a lot, not just technically, but in confidence and discipline as well. I’m moving on for personal reasons, but I’m grateful for the experience and for how they treated both me and my daughter. If you’re considering starting — especially as a beginner or as a parent with a child in the program — this is a great place to train. Five stars without hesitation.
Renzo Gracie Lakeway has the best program for my wife and I’s three girls. Over three years, our daughters have experienced the week in week out professional and positive atmosphere exhibited by Professor Ricardo, Coach Cameron, and Coach Taylor. Through consistent attendance and the opportunity to work hard, our kids have earned the feeling of empowerment. After every class my kids are energized and visibly happy. Because of other sports and life schedule, we don’t have the chance to fully take advantage of the classes that are offered 6 days a week. If you’re looking for your kid(s) to exercise, receive verbal and visual instructions, and learn self defense look no further. Thank you to Professor and all the coaches.
