Highly recommend! This is a phenomenal place to train. Very detailed and solid instruction and the culture at this school is very welcoming. All the professors and coaches are top notch but I really like that Joao is actually there himself and involved and teaching many if not most classes. Joao's jiu jitsu lineage is super legit having trained and received his black belt directly under the world renowned Carlson Gracie, so you know the techniques being taught are not watered down but taught exactly how they were intended to be. The curriculum is well thought out and you have a clear path laid out to your blue belt and beyond. If you're looking for the right BJJ school for you I highly recommend checking out Joao Crus BJJ School!
My son (age 12) and I began taking jiu-jitsu classes from Joao Crus and his instructors about a month ago. Overall, we're both very impressed. The quality of instruction is top-notch, and we like the classes on Monday and Wednesday evening. I think their introductory offer of a private class, weekly group classes, and a uniform for $99 is a really good deal. We've only gone to their southwest Austin location, but I've heard from other parents that their Dripping Spring location is also pretty good. It's always been a dream of mine to get my black belt, so perhaps in a few years it may become a reality. : )
To learn BJJ in Austin from a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt "from Brazil" thats the way to go! Finding the right teacher is essential. If you're interested in learning Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, real self defense, having Fun, Getting in Shape or supplementing you're training, Joao Crus is the person to learn from in Austin, TX. He has the best BJJ academy in this area, period. PS:Joao, is AWESOME with kids and adults. I am Marcello Monteiro and this is my review for Joao's academy.
I did the 42 day challenge with Joao and I am very impressed with how much I progressed in less than 2 months. Starting from zero jujitsu knowledge to feeling comfortable rolling several for minutes at a time is a huge success to me. The exercise aspect of jujitsu is more than expected. I feel stronger, have better endurance and understanding of how my body can (and should not) move. I never felt anything but dedication and trust under the instruction of Joao and his team. It was truly a rewarding experience, a killer workout, and a great opportunity to meet and challenge new friends.
Great coaches, great people, and great value. This club is also very beginner and kid-friendly, so I'd highly recommend making the plunge if you've been thinking about trying BJJ or want to get back into it after a long hiatus.
Mr. Cruz instruction and leadership skills have helped me improve my health and professional life. In the business world and this economy I've I feel that taking Jiu Jitsu has shown me when to take action and how to win.
