Gracie Humaitá Austin reviews

Rated 5.0/5 across 70 Google reviews.

I feel compelled to write a Google review because we've had such a positive experience at Gracie Humaita Austin. This is the third gym we've been a member of, and the 9th BJJ gym at which we've trained. We've only had positive experiences at these gyms, but Gracie Humaita stands out. Two of my boys are a part of their exceptional kids program - both kids and Juniors. For any kids training, I'd choose a highly engaged purple belt over a unengaged black belt any day. But in this case, for their juniors program, there are always four to six black belts on the mat, and all the black belt instructors are hands-on and highly engaged with the kids. The head of the program, Koji Bamba, is a great leader. He demands focus and attention but is very compassionate, with safety for the kids as his number one priority. A black belt himself, he remains a dedicated student of the game, constantly learning cutting edge best practices on coaching and jiu

I'm a brown belt at GH, and my son is in the kids program. Both he and I have trained at most of the other gyms in the area, and though many of them are good, to me, GH stands above the rest. Austin has become the center of the world for BJJ, and Gracie Humiata is the best gym for Gi Jiu Jitsu in Austin (and one of the best overall, though the competition for best no-gi gym in Austin is insane, with literally 4 or 5 of the best no-gi teams in the world here). Gracie Humiata also has one of the best kids programs in Austin, with absolute top level instruction from Professor Koji. He runs the kids classes with a perfect balance of fun and learning, keeping them moving, but in a way that they learn BJJ without even knowing it in some cases. And teaching style works in competition: GH has several of the very best kid competitors in Austin, who have medals at all the major tourneys--ADCC, IBJJF, JJWL, NAGA, etc, etc. Most importantly, my son
This review is specific to the Kids BJJ program. We have cross trained, competed against and have gotten to know several students as well as Professor Koji this last year and let me tell you that these kids are fortunate to train at this school. Their kids display phenomenal Jiu Jitsu for their age and even more impressive is their work ethic, respect, Mat/Competition etiquette and just general positive outlook on the sport. They are led by Professor Koji who is one of the most methodical and detailed Professors I have met. He is a true leader who knows each kids strengths and weaknesses and does an amazing job of bringing out the best in them. He genuinely loves this sport and especially the kids and is not only making champions but just great human beings in the process. I highly recommend this place if you are considering putting your kids in Jiu Jitsu and are lucky enough to live nearby.
I’ve had the pleasure of visiting this academy several times with my 10 year old son, and it’s clear that Coach Koji has built something truly special here. His passion and dedication to the art of jiu jitsu — and to his students — are unmatched. Koji runs a top-tier kids program that balances discipline, technical precision, and fun in the perfect way. Every class is structured, well-run, and focused on growth. The level of attention and coaching each child receives is impressive, and you can see the improvement and confidence that builds over time. The facility is clean, well-maintained, and has a professional yet welcoming atmosphere that makes both kids and parents feel comfortable and valued. Koji’s knowledge and commitment to developing young athletes are what make this school stand out. Whether your child is just starting or already competing, this program provides world-class instruction and a strong foundation in respect, perse
Gracie Humaitá Austin is hands down the best academy we have been to. Our 3 children are in the kids classes and we couldn’t be happier with the program. The coaches are exceptional and really helped our kids excel and develop a deep love for jiujitsu. All of the kids professors and coaches are what makes the program so special. Not only are the kids training hard and gaining confidence but they are being mentored by some amazing people. Professor Koji and Professor Marcus have been huge influences and role models for my children. We love the family/team environment at GHA and are very grateful for all of the coaches and staff. My husband and I have dropped into the adult classes as well and have always had fun and left feeling better than when we walked in. Nothing but amazing things to say about this academy. If you live in the Austin area, there is no better place to train!
