GB Dripping Springs stands out among the rest of the schools in the area. From the moment you walk through the door, you are greeted with warmth and enthusiasm by the friendly staff. The facility itself is clean, well-maintained, and equipped with top-notch training equipment, creating a safe and inviting environment for everyone. The professor leading the classes is truly exceptional. His expertise in jiu jitsu is evident, and his ability to effectively teach students of all ages and skill levels is remarkable. He possess a unique blend of passion and patience, making each class enjoyable and engaging for both kids and adults alike. One aspect that truly impressed me about this jiu jitsu school is their dedication to the growth and development of their students. They take the time to understand each individual's goals and provide personalized attention to help them reach their full potential. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned pr
I can't say enough about how fortunate the Drip community is to have a place like this run by such great people. GBDS is full of role models, echoes a mantra of respect, and has a way of making members feel like they're a part of something bigger than just a place where they train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Our family had zero exposure to martial arts. We looked into BJJ for our (then) 12yo son because of all the reasons many parents get their kids started in BJJ. In our case, not many things had come particularly easy for our son and we thought if we could connect him to a jiu-jitsu experience that can meet him at his level, he'd really embrace it. Everything changed in nothing but positive ways for him. BJJ has brought so many positive qualities to our sons life - we were hoping for this, but didn't really expect it. Professor Max runs such a tight ship and has a way of bringing the best jiu-jitsu out of everyone young and old, developmenta
Our sons started attending Gracie Barra Dripping Springs in Aug '22 (they were just 5, 5, and 4!). They had tons of energy, we had just moved to DS and it was HOT outside = indoor padded gym. My husband and I were immediately impressed with Professor Max's (co-owner) coaching, his professional jiujitsu ability and skill without a doubt, yes, AND equally important to us, his dedication to and investment in EACH of his students. Our boys enjoyed going so often that in Apr '23 my husband started as well - better keep up with these highly trained athletes. The unsung hero in this growing local business, Jess Bookman (co-owner)! Jess's passion for her family and the jiujitsu community is unwavering, in addition to supporting day to day operations and ensuring all goes smoothly, she challenges and leads the women of GBDS. 3 years later, our family (myself included) is at GBDS multiple times a week. It is a community that supports one another
We could not be more thrilled with our experience at Gracie Barra Dripping Springs! My twin boys have been part of the program for five months now, and it has truly exceeded our expectations in every way. When we moved to Dripping Springs in August, we were nervous about being new to the community. Our first real interaction with the area was through this gym, and it has been such a blessing. From the moment we walked in, the coaches, staff, and fellow parents made us feel welcome and supported. Prior to moving, my boys were already enrolled in jiu-jitsu at another gym, so we were a bit apprehensive about switching. But, from day one, they fell in love with Gracie Barra! The coaches are incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely passionate about teaching jiu-jitsu, and it shows in the way the kids have progressed. My boys have not only gained confidence in their skills, but they are also even more excited about jiu-jitsu than ever
We signed our daughter up at Gracie Barra about two years ago when she was 7, and it’s the longest she’s ever stuck with a sport. She’s gained confidence, learned respect, and picked up little habits like shaking hands with her sparring partner before and after a match. The coaches, especially Max, are patient, encouraging, and make it fun. The studio is super welcoming for families, with events and outings that build community. We love the flexible membership too -- she can pop into any class, and we usually make it 2–3 times a week. Careful though…if your kids start, they might rope you in. My husband joined and now goes just as much as she does!
We love Gracie Barra Dripping Springs! My son (6) and daughter (7) are both part of the Little Champs program and I am part of the women’s program. Everyone is so welcoming and all coaches and Professor Max are SO great with the kids. They are kind and compassionate but also set expectations for proper behavior. Jiu jitsu can be intimidating to try (it was for me!) but Coach Jess, and everyone else, made it really easy. If you are considering it, try it! Showing up is the hardest part :)
