I’ve been going here for about 7 years. The school has a strong emphasis on fitness, self-defense and learning about Chinese culture. Other than the lion dance team, we do not focus on performance or competitions. There are several styles, so I’d recommend trying each to find which style fits your fitness goals and interests. The culture of the school is of working hard, being a good training partner, and leaving your ego at the door. The atmosphere is fun and friendly. We take exercise and technique seriously but laugh and joke with each other while we do it. There are no contracts, uniforms, or belts. You pay for each class so there’s no unreasonable commitment for trying a few classes to see if you like it. I’d highly recommend the school and look forward to meeting new students.
I trained with Steel Dragon from 2004 - 2006, and the quality of the training and the coach are awesome. Chris Young is a passionate and knowledgeable coach for both Kung Fu and Lion Dance. He is dedicated to his students success and does whatever he can to help his students succeed. I would definitely recommend this school for anyone interested in Chinese Martial Arts!
What’s great about Chris as an instructor is that he appreciates how everyone starts at different skill levels. He works with everyone, where they are at, and helps them develop. His teaching style guides each student to overcome their own personal obstacles to better internalize the system they are studying. I highly recommend this school as it balances effective fighting techniques with traditional elements of Kung Fu.
We had Steel Dragon perform a lion dance at our wedding, and they did an amazing job! Not only did they perform well, but they also explained to us the significance of various parts of the dance and items involved. We loved having them and our guests loved them too. It made our wedding day super special!
