Real deal MMA gym with 2 cages, a boxing ring, large open mat, and another mat with heavy bags. Atmosphere is very welcoming and friendly. My 7 year old loves the kids MMA class and the coaches do a fantastic job with the kids. Marshal is an amazing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu instructor and the striking and mma coaches are all experienced, and in most cases, currently competing fighters who really know what they are teaching.
A former coworker invited me to try a class at Mark Cherico's Marital Arts & Fitness Academy last January. I have been hooked ever since. I started knowing nothing about martial arts and was not in the best of shape. The instructors are talented and passionate at what they teach. The classes are well organized. The more advanced students are always willing to work with us newbies to help us understand and improve our technique. No one is judgmental at this gym. I have learned a great deal since I started. I enjoyed the instructors and the gym so much that I signed my son up shortly after I joined. He has also be taking classes at the academy for almost a year now. At the age of five he is learning important life skills such as discipline, self defense and fitness. My three year old daughter even takes the occasional class. It is a family type atmosphere. Your fellow students will be like a second family in no time at all. Thanks for a g
Now that I’m moving out of state and my training at this gym has come to an end, I wanted to give a huge endorsement for any potential clients that may be wondering about this place. I cannot speak highly enough about it. The trainers are on point, and make every effort to help people reach their full potential. They are awesome instructors that really want to see everyone improve, regardless of age, skill level, etc. In addition to the training staff, most of the students are willing to help out as well. Everyone I trained with here helped out a lot. Also, I started training here with only a small amount of experience about 2 weeks before my 43rd birthday – by my calculations that made me one of about ten old guys in this place and I was apprehensive to say the least. What I found was that I had nothing to worry about, it’s a great place to train even if you’re not a 25 year old aspiring UFC fighter. Not much more to say. Go try it out

You won't find a better group of people to train high level MMA with or for beginners and people just looking to exercise. Coach Khama Worthy is the pride of MMA in Pittsburgh and treats everyone with respect and has a great sense of humor. Coach Chris Deep eats, sleeps, and breaths combat sports as well and will go the extra mile to program his wealth of knowledge to each individual member. This is a family friendly academy that will teach you what martial arts is all about. I highly recommend this place to everyone looking to partake in anything relating to combat sports and fitness.
I have been working out with the staff of Mark Cherico’s Martial Arts Academy for better than 2 years. I walked into the Academy at the age of 48 with zero skills. I could barely skip rope could manage a few push up and a couple of sit ups. I have improved myself through the motivation and teaching skills of the professional coaching staff. My personal preference is the boxing and the Mauy Thai Kickboxing curriculum. I am now capable of throwing a barrage of punches, kicks, knees, and elbows in defense of myself. I am confident I could hold my own in a street fight, not that I am interested in a street fight or any other fight. My goal at the Academy is stay in shape and learn some fighting skills. I have been ver successful thanks to the excellent coaching. Both Khama Worthy, and Khru Anthony Durnell have guided and motivated me to push myself just a little harder and to better myself in every class. Regardless of your age or physical
