After moving to Pittsburgh I researched martial arts studios for weeks and visited several until I found Sifu Rothrock's Kung Fu. The staff was friendly and informative, more than happy to talk and answer questions and I walked away knowing for a fact that this was where I wanted to be. Me and my best friend took the three introductory classes and immediately signed on for a year of training and I've never regretted it. The instructors are knowledgeable and helpful, keeping the whole class moving along while still finding time for individual instruction throughout. They don't just stop being friendly once they have your money either. Every day when I get to the studio I'm greeted by name with a smile and the instructors are happy to talk after class as well.
When I started at Rothrock's about two and a half years ago, I'd had no martial arts experience whatsoever. I felt so intimidated when I walked in for my introductory lesson and saw all the experienced students going through their class. I thought, "How am I ever going to learn how to do that?" From day one, all of the instructors at Rothrock's made me feel like I could learn it! They are all very encouraging, engaging, and enthusiastic. The classes are a great workout for the body and for the mind. They're extremely accessible for beginners, and the way the classes are structured, we gain the building blocks to go from beginners to experienced students. The trial classes are a great way to get started and see what the school is all about. I am proud to be a student at Rothrock's. I get a great workout, I continue to learn to refine my focus and concentration... and I get to do kung fu! How cool is that? Thanks to all of the staff at Ro
Always a positive environment. Staff are friendly and always available to help. My granddaughter has been taking classes for 2 years and I have seen such an improvement with her learning and listening in class. I was having financial problems and I asked her what she wanted to keep doing, karate or dance and she picked karate! The students both young and old are well trained and only practice their techniques in class. There is never any rough housing or kids acting up ever. They are trained from the start to listen, be polite and concentrate on what they are doing. Even if your child doesn't become a black belt or continue doing karate into adulthood, karate teaches them discipline and respect, something they will need in adulthood.
I have been a student at Rothrock's for a number of years and I have only had positive experiences. The instructors are informative, patient, and diligent in making sure they spend time with each individual student during class. The courses are approachable, but they leave more than adequate room for each student to be both physically and mentally challenged, should that be their interest. Over the course of my study I have gained and maintained a great deal of flexibility and each time I walk out of class I feel more relaxed. As an ultra-marathon runner, being able to strengthen my joints and the muscles around those joints is critical to both preventing injury and to my longevity in the sport. I believe that Tai Chi has helped both from a preventative and a recovery standpoint. Furthermore, it is something which I look forward to doing for a very long time, even after I am no longer able to run.
I'm an retired man who joined the classes to improve my flexibility, mobility, and general physical condition. Plus, I have an ankle that was injured some years ago from a break and has never been quite right. Well, Tai-Chi has done way more for my ankle then physical therapy. (Not denying the value of PT, but it wasn't a complete solution). My flexibility is greatly improved, muscle tone is better, and I am much lighter on my feet. Sometimes the workouts are tiring, but there is a sense of accomplishment. During class, you practice the routines you have learned to that point, and a few times over the session, you get personalized instruction on the next step or how to improve some of what you have already learned. Master Sifu is a very good and positive instructor. Highly recommended.
I attend classes here independently and also with my mother and both of my teenaged children. The instructors are kind and knowledgeable, the classes are filled with fun and camaraderie, and the training is excellent for both body and mind. Kung fu and tai chi are a great benefit to 3 generations of my family and my life is better across the board because of them. If you're curious at all, seriously check this place out. They have a great program and will get you set up, comfortable, and progressing in no time!
