10 out of 10, would learn jiujitsu here again. What can I say about Fundamental JiuJitsu? This place is incredible. The atmosphere is relaxed and unpressured. The prices are some of the best I've seen in the area. The instructors know what they're doing and they all can show you how to do it several different ways. I have always struggled with the "show a move, do a move" style of learning jiujitsu. Fundamental Jiujitsu teaches concepts and gets you rolling as soon as they can. Once you've got the concept, the instructors help you refine it to a razor's edge. For me it's been a game changer and I feel like my game has greatly improved since I started here. Last, but certainly not least, Fundamental Jiujitsu is a phenomenal place for kids to learn jiujitsu. My daughter had been training in another gym and I moved her to Fundamental. Our daughter joined Fundamental Jiujitsu several months ago and we couldn't be happier. Coach Joe leads a fun and active series of classes for children that teaches the fundamentals of jiujitsu in a safe and controlled environment. The facility is spotless and they have strict rules to make it stays that way, which is a relief. Our daughter has made such strides under the careful guidance of Coach Joe and is not only getting better at jiujitsu, but is becoming more confident with how her body moves, and gaining great experience in grappling and how to escape grapples. We especially love that Coach Joe takes time at the end of every class to review what was learned, highlight individual and class successes, and make everyone feel like they got to participate. I trained years ago, but then had to stop for a bit. I bounced around to different parts of the country and would drop into gyms to check them out, but I never quite found one that felt like a fit. From the first moment I walked into Fundamental, I knew I had found a home. I was acquainted with Joe prior to becoming his student, but I was not aware of his extensive Jiu Jitsu background. Quite simply, Joe is the perfect Jiu Jitsu teacher. He has a deep knowledge and nuanced understanding of the martial art. He also has the patience and communication skills necessary to teach a wide array of students regardless of age, gender, background, skill level, or physical capability. The culture at Fundamental truly reflects Joe’s personality. My son loves to go to the kids program. My son’s favorite teacher was Coach Joe when Coach was teaching in elementary school. We are very lucky to find him again! My son gets out of it a lot from going to the class. Not only jiujitsu itself but there is a topic to discuss each week to be in touch with mind. The curriculum is very organized and has put so much thoughts to it. Very safe and fun environment to learn for kids! Weekly challenges are fun and great way to stay in touch to practice. Coach Joe and Coach James are friendly and extremely easy to talk to, thank you for being amazing Coach! Highly recommended.
Fundamental jiu-jitsu is a gem of a gym! Joe is really passionate about the gentle art and transmitting his knowledge to us students to make us better grapplers. I really love the games-based format here; it makes for really fun sessions, and I feel that the training time is optimized. Our other instructors are just as passionate as Joe and each one brings a unique angle from which to approach the art. The atmosphere is welcoming and the community is invested getting better together. We have a great kids program, and the adult class has practitioners from a wide range of age groups, so there is something for everyone here at FJJ.
I was recently in Glenside for a brief time visiting a friend, and I was looking for a good place to train for the week. Fundamental opened their doors to this jiu jitsu brother from north of Chicago. What an excellent place to train! Joe is very knowledgeable and skilled. I was looking for a place that promoted a conceptual and constraint based training approach. I certainly found that at Fundamental. I had excellent training partners and some fun rolls. Joe, thank you very much for your hospitality. I hope to visit my friend again in a year, or two, or three and would love to train here again. I highly recommend training here.
