We absolutely LOVE SASPhiladelphia Brazilian Jiu Jitsu!! Our 6 year old started 4 months ago on a trial, and after the 1st class we already knew we were going to join! The coaches here are all patient, encouraging, and truly great with the kids. Along with self defense and technique, they also focus on important life skills like discipline, respect, and confidence. The classes are fun and engaging while also being structured. The coaches do a great job at making all of the kids feel included no matter their level. You can tell they are all really passionate about what they do. My son loves coming here! I find us coming more days than we originally planned .. recently adding Fridays to our schedule lol. As a parent, I feel my child is completely safe here if I have to step away during class, and that says a lot! I am so happy we found coach Anton and his team! My son leaves every class energized and excited to come back the next day. If
5 STAR recommendation for SAS Fishtown to anyone considering studying Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu! …Three months ago, after years of the old, “I’ll look into it eventually” routine, I finally made the decision that I was going to join a BJJ school no matter what. I spent just over a week researching gyms in/around Philly before visiting SAS Fishtown for a free class - and I knew right away this is where I wanted to be. Professor Anton is a very dedicated, patient, and talented instructor. He has established a culture that welcomes newcomers of all ages and levels, where his students don’t intimidate or bully each other, but push and empower each other to work harder and get better. He emphasizes and breaks down (in great detail) the concept of each technique and how they relate to one-another to provide a full understanding of Jiu-Jitsu, as opposed to simply teaching moves. He also assigns training partners thoughtfully, giving all students amp
I've been here for a couple of months already and I don't feel like I'm part of a team, I feel like family! I never really had much experience with Martial Arts so at first, I didn't know what to expect but the culture at this gym is very welcoming and beginner friendly especially after getting insight into other gyms in the area. You have it all here when it comes to what this gym offers: advanced, beginner, kids, and even a class focused on strength & conditioning running throughout the week. Although this gym mostly trains in GI, there are classes for NOGI as well. Classes are built around the use of self-defense and competition which can be shown on their accolade wall. The professor, Anton is down to earth and breaks it down for us so everybody can achieve their goals with Jiu Jitsu. He and his fellow instructors have made this gym what it is today by keeping their students' spirits, energy, and skills high, which is why the gym ha
My 4 year old has been attending the Little Lions class for the last 3 months and I am so thankful another parent encouraged me to do the trial! If you’re on the fence about it - do the trial! You have nothing to lose! Anton and all the coaches are teaching the sport of jujitsu but more importantly they are coaching the kids about vital character skills. The kids are learning respect, discipline, sportsmanship, community, and resilience. Also, I have zero knowledge about jujitsu but the classes are enjoyable to watch. They are always doing different stations and activities. The pace of the class is perfect for little ones. Nearly all the kids stay highly engaged throughout the entire class. Keep up the great work SAS!
We are so glad we found SAS! It's been several months since my son started in the Little Lions (4-8yo) class, and we can already see a difference in his focus and confidence. Coach Anton and the assistant coaches make learning fun while still drilling in the important of discipline and hard work. It's a hard balance to strike, and they make it look easy! I also have taken several of the adult classes and really enjoyed them. It can be nerve-wracking starting a new sport as an adult, but the coaches and gym members create an inviting atmosphere and are very patient and supportive. Coach Anton is great at breaking down the moves, so they are digestible. Of special note: I felt very comfortable as a woman at the gym. Everyone is very respective, inclusive, and welcoming. All this to say, can't recommend SAS enough!
Coach Anton has built SAS Philadelphia into something truly special. I trained here temporarily while my local SAS team gym closed for repairs. Coming to class at this gym has been a great experience and I plan to continue to visit in the future. Coach Anton’s instruction is clear and easy to follow. As a beginner I found the classes to be challenging but not at all intimidating. The atmosphere among the students is always friendly and welcoming. From the very first day when you are here, you feel you are a part of the team. All of the 5-star reviews are well deserved.
