Well we started at Scranton MMA a year ago. First it was my son and myself. He was taking BJJ (Brazilian Jiu-jitsu) and Judo and I was doing judo. We were having a great time and then a few months later my 5 yo daughter decided she wanted to try BJJ and judo too. She loved it and then recently my wife decided to join and does BJJ and judo as well. The kids classes are fun for the kids. I have never seen a a kid look bored and not have fun. The kids are also taught discipline and respect for others and also get (as I have seen in my kids) a huge self esteem boost. The kids are also taught how to handle bullies without violence but are also taught how to take care of themselves if such a need arises. The adult classes are great for beginners as well as the more advanced. They teach you the basics and will make sure will be safe before sparring for the first time. You never feel judged or looked down upon. For the adults and the kids the i
I have always been a fan of combat sports and of the UFC, but always thought that I would never have the ability to participate in them. So when my girlfriend suggested that we try a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class I was a little hesitant. When she told me it was a Gracie Jiu Jitsu class, I was almost against it. I knew the name Gracie and thought the school was going to be a collection of intense mat experts hell bent on placing my arm/leg on their mantle. I'm glad that I took a chance. From the moment my girlfriend and I stepped into Scranton MMA we were treated with warmth and acceptance. The staff has welcomed us with open arms and treated us like family. The program is very beginner friendly. Everyone takes the time to explain the very basic of moves until you are so comfortable with them they become second nature. Scranton MMA also has a variety of choices I have to train, which helps to always develop your level of fitness. Since joini

Deciding to check out-- and join --Scranton MMA was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I'd been looking for a Jiu Jitsu school for a few years, and always overlooked Scranton MMA before because it was a long drive from my house, but now I have to restrain myself from training every night and spending too much money on gas! The instructors are all friendly and helpful, and even more than that, knowledgeable. They teach real-world self-defense, which is incredibly important to me, as a police officer. The other students welcomed me right away and after only 7 months, everyone feels like an extended family. I can't recommend this place enough.A
I am writing this on my son's page as I have some difficulty with my page tonight. My name is Sean McCall and I am a physician in the Scranton area. my son and I have been training here for about two years total (give or take time off for studies and injuries and swimming---his main sport). I have been a fan of martial arts forever but haven't been able to train religiously due to medical school and medical practice limitations. I am by no means someone who enjoys a fight or is driven by muscle man testosterone jerk mode antics. I just love competing against myself and getting to the next level of anything now that I can no longer swim competitively. Its been a fantastic way for my son and I have to one more thing that connects us and that we can share (although with his being a teenager he's not about to say he enjoys hanging out with dad) as he grows. I've also seen him go from a scared out of his mind skinny 12 year old to a well man
As someone who is wholly inexperienced in martial arts and is admittedly lacking in physical activity, my time learning Muay Thai at Scranton MMA was a supremely enlightening, positive introduction to the field. Instructions are perfectly paced to each individual student's comfort, and classes foster a great sense of cooperation and growth between student and instructor. Never in the classes I attended did I ever feel unwilling to ask for clarification or a refresher. Additionally, classes are kept interesting through varied application of drills, partner work, etc.. The approachable, highly qualified instructors are truly wellsprings of knowledge and I left each and every session feeling as though I had learned a great deal. Though I was not able to fully complete the Muay Thai program due to university, I have been practicing as many techniques as my claustrophobic dorm room allows :) Thank you, Steve!
