There’s a lot of good Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gyms in Pittsburgh, but Rise 8 really stands out due to its two main instructors, Aurelio Faria and Dave England. Both are very personable, friendly, highly skilled (black belt) and give an incredible amount of personalized instruction. They both go the extra mile in making sure you understand things. The somewhat smaller class sizes also allows one plenty of one on one time too, which is a nice bonus. You won’t feel overwhelmed or ignored. Most of all, you will learn Jiu Jitsu here, and if you put in the time with them, you are guaranteed to get better. I speak from my own personal experience with them.
Rise 8 Training Academy is an outstanding BJJ gym with an incredibly welcoming atmosphere. Everyone here is friendly, supportive, and always willing to help, no matter your experience level. Prof. Dave England has a wealth of knowledge and a true passion for teaching. He takes the time to explain techniques clearly and makes sure every student feels included and confident on the mats. I’m grateful to be part of this community and highly recommend Rise 8 to anyone looking to train in a positive and encouraging environment.
I had the pleasure of attending a living Muay Thai summit at Rise 8 Training Academy over the weekend. The facility was fantastic. The head Muay Thai instructor Keith is a wealth of knowledge and has a great demeanor and teaching process. The training mats are top of the line and after spending 3 days for 6-8 hours a day your body will know you trained on a quality structure/setup. Ultimately the instruction and facility is head of the class.
My 6-year-old son has been attending this jiu-jitsu school, and we couldn’t be happier with our experience. The coach is extremely professional, knowledgeable, and truly the best in the field. He creates a positive and encouraging environment that helps kids build confidence and develop their skills. Highly recommend this school to anyone looking for top-notch jiu-jitsu training!
I have been training here for 2 years - brand new gym, clean mats with tons of space to roll, and most importantly, a great instructor and awesome gym-mates. Professor Dave is incredibly knowledgable and experienced, and explains things very clearly. have felt welcomed and included since day one and have made lifelong friends as a part of the journey. Clean, friendly environment. Small class sizes, so instructors give plenty of personal instruction. Both instructors are great. My 13 year old daughter tried 2 other gyms in the Pittsburgh area and this is the one she stuck with. Everybody made her feel at home the moment she stepped into the gym. Would highly recommend it.
