This Gentleman called Mr. Nick Ilias is someone whom I have been very Blessed and a little luck to have had the opportunity to train with while he was working as a Merchant Marine and training when he was on ground with Mr. John E Martines whom both are AMAZING martial artist and am very fortunate to have crossed paths with. His commitment to the Soo Bahk Do Federation is as genuine as it gets. He has been training over a decade under Kwon Sa Bo Nim 9th Dan and the highest ranking Cho Dan currently. We are very fortunate to have such a incredible Instructor here in Honesdale where the roots of the federation go as far back as the 70’s in our little town. If anyone is looking to become a part of an INCREDIBLE lineage call today. Thank YOU! SOO BAHK! Morgen - Cho Dan #38456
Excellent studio. My son (7) and I (33) both train under Mr. Ilias, and it is nothing less than impressive to see how he adjusts the intensity of the instruction to both match and push his students. He brings a rich depth of knowledge and culture that take this from a "karate class" to something much grander. And yet, he manages to create an environment in which training is fun and fulfilling. No doubt in my mind that this is the place to be if you are interested in the martial arts - no matter what level you are at. It's definitely worth checking out at either location!
I have the pleasure of both training with and under the tutelage of Mister Nick Ilias over the course of my path through Soo Bahk Do. My path through Soo Bahk Do started with John Martines Kyo Sa Nim in Carbondale where Mister Ilias assisted and instructed classes. Through his instructor, 9th Dan Kwon Sa Bom Nim , Nick Ilias brings with him a strong connection to the art’s history that can be traced back to the founding of the art in Korea. Nick Ilias’s dedication and desire to teach the art was clearly a strong motivator for him and few things will make a student more eager to learn than a teacher that feels a genuine love for his own subject. That he finally realized his goal to open his own studio to spread the techniques and philosophies of Soo Bahk Do only highlights how strong his drive and dedication truly is. A martial art is more than punching and kicking techniques. A martial art requires a philosophy to make it an art. I hone
My son has been attending Mr. Ilias' classes for almost 6 mos. now and it has been a really great learning experience for him. I believe that this is one of the best studios in the greater Scranton area. He not only trains physically but helps with mental discipline as well. If you are looking for somewhere to really learn a martial art, this is the place to go. He is very passionate about his craft. The cost is also very reasonable. I am so glad we were able to find his studio.
I've trained with Mr. Nick Ilias several times now and it is always an exciting time. Not only is he a proficient practitioner, he is able to kick the intensity to 11. Anyone who takes classes at Ilias Soo Bahk Do is going to get a wonderful workout but also learn valuable skills like self defense but also foundational emotional skills like confidence that are crucial for younger children. Highly recommended.
I wasn't crazy about starting karate. I thought karate was a bunch of people jumping around in tracksuits and breaking paper-thin boards. Not here, this is the real deal!! Our training is hard, but I know that what I'm learning will help protect me if I ever had to defend myself. Mr Ilias says you can look like a martial artist or you can be a martial artist. I want to be a martial artist! Soo Bahk!
