We love this Jiujitsu academy! We as a family have been training for 4-5 years now, we joined the adamson bros jiujitsu academy under the Rafael Lovato Jr. association in Seaside Oregon back in 2018/2019. Trained there regularly until we moved out to the Hillsboro area in September of 2022. I didn’t do much research on what gyms were around this area, however I narrowed the options down to two choices. Went to this gym for the first trial classes and I decided the first day this was my new gym. Never tried the other gym, the class schedule is consistent and very workable for my job. I love the training here, it is a little more geared towards competition but they train in a manner anyone with any ability is able to join in and have fun. The instruction is great and I’ve learned so much in the past year! I recommend if anyone male, female..adult or child to try Jiujitsu, it will change your life for the better. This gym is great for both
Excellent place to train jiu jitsu. My two boys (ages 10 and 10) and I train here. Very welcoming, supportive environment- staff and members are great. All experience levels welcomed. Their coaches are attentive, patient, and knowledgeable. The main coach, Sean, is a black belt. He and his staff are a pleasure to watch as they coach the kids. You will never catch a coach distracted (like being on their cell phone, which is a pet peeve of mine). Their schedule is robust- kids and adult classes 6 days per week. I'm very happy being a part of the CTA Hillsboro family. I encourage and recommend anyone who is interested jiu jitsu to try this place.
We couldn’t be happier with our experience at CTA Hillsboro. We have been part of this team for three years. The professor and coaches here are truly outstanding — not only are they incredibly skilled in their craft, but they also have a remarkable ability to connect with the students on a personal level. Every class is a perfect balance of encouragement, discipline, and technical training. What stands out most is the respect and discipline the coaches instill in our kids. It’s not just about learning how to grapple or win matches; it's about building character, respect, resilience, and confidence. The values they teach on the mat — hard work, respect for others, perseverance — are things our kids carry with them outside the academy, too. Every session, the coaches demand the best effort and behavior from the students while making sure they feel supported and motivated. You can see the pride the coaches take in watching each child grow,
From the moment I found out I was pregnant, I knew I wanted my daughter to be involved in a martial art. I wasn’t sure which one at the time, but I knew I wanted her to gain confidence, discipline, and the ability to defend herself. When she was finally old enough, I began exploring options and reached out to CTA Hillsboro to inquire about class times and age groups. I received a prompt and helpful response, and from that moment, we’ve been a proud part of the CTA Hillsboro family. Now, a little over three years into her Jiu Jitsu journey, I can’t begin to express how grateful I am for this academy. The structure of the program is solid and thoughtfully designed—not only to develop skill, but also to nurture confidence, resilience, and a sense of community. The growth my daughter has experienced since her very first class has been incredible. She has not only developed strong technical skills, but her self-assurance, focus, and determin
Both me and my elementary age daughters train here and I'm very impressed with Shawn, Ka'ohu, Mike, Tillman, Ben and all the instructors. They have a passion for Jiu-Jitsu and helping students improve in a non-intimidating environment. The gym is always very clean and with classes in the early morning or evening it makes attending easy to fit around my schedule. CTA is a welcoming, family friendly gym with great classes for all age and skill levels, so If you're considering training yourself or want to get your kids into an activity stop by and give it a try.
If you're looking for a Jiu Jitsu gym in Oregon, I can’t recommend CTA Hillsboro enough! Since joining, my daughter has grown so much—not just in her Jiu Jitsu technique, but in her overall confidence and ability to protect herself. What really stands out as a parent is the culture here. Shawn and the coaches don’t let the kids walk all over them. They’re firm, respectful, and focused on discipline, which is exactly what I was hoping to find. They push the kids to work hard and build grit, not just on the mat but in life. This isn’t just another martial arts gym—this is a place where kids grow into strong, respectful, and resilient individuals. If you're in the Hillsboro area and want a Jiu Jitsu gym that balances structure, skill, and support, this is the one.
