10th Planet Jiu Jitsu Tigard reviews

Rated 4.9/5 across 132 Google reviews.

I’ve been training at 10th Planet Tigard for about 3 years now, and I can confidently say it’s an exceptional place to train Jiu-Jitsu! The atmosphere is welcoming, and the team is incredibly supportive, making it easy for anyone to jump in and feel at home, no matter your skill level. A huge shoutout to the head coach and owner, Sam Hardy. Sam’s expertise in Jiu-Jitsu is unmatched, and his passion for teaching is evident in every class. He has a unique ability to break down complex techniques in a way that’s both engaging and easy to understand. His approach to teaching, combined with his positive and motivating attitude, makes training under him an amazing experience. Whether you’re just starting or are a seasoned practitioner, 10th Planet Tigard offers top-notch instruction in a friendly, encouraging environment. I highly recommend this gym to anyone looking to take their Jiu-Jitsu to the next level!
I started at 10P Tigard almost three years ago without any prior experience in wrestling or jiu jitsu. Watching enough UFC inspired me to walk through the door, but it's the community and leadership of Sam and Amber's team that got me to stay. In the last three years, not only has this community helped me on the mats and developed my skills in BJJ and wrestling, they have helped me in my personal life; I recently became a father, and I had no idea this would be the group of people to help me through this transition in life. When you join 10P Tigard, you're truly joining a family. Some of its members want to compete at the highest echelons of competition, some are hoping for a good workout, and others, such as myself, just want to be good enough to keep our kids in check as they grow up. Whatever your goal in jiu jitsu, this is the place to train.
This review was way overdue. 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu Tigard is truly something special. Sam Hardy is an exceptional instructor - calm, grounded, and deeply thoughtful in how he teaches. He has an incredible ability to break down complex concepts and articulate them clearly, and he adapts his explanations so they land with all kinds of students, no matter their background or learning style. What really sets this gym apart is the culture. There’s zero machismo here - just a welcoming, respectful, and supportive environment that makes training both challenging and enjoyable. It’s also one of the cleanest gyms I’ve ever trained at, which says a lot about the pride and care put into the space. I was fortunate enough to train here for almost two years, and I can’t say enough good things about my experience. The instruction, the atmosphere, and the people made it a place I genuinely looked forward to being. Anyone would be lucky to train at 10th
I’ve been training at 10th Planet Tigard for a little while, and I feel like I have progressed so much. The gym is very clean and well-maintained, with an amazing atmosphere. The people here genuinely care about you and your progress. Everyone is very welcoming and supportive, making you feel like part of the family. The head coach, Sam, is a great guy and is incredible at the sport. He also puts a ton of care and attention into making sure his students are staying safe while training. The kids’ coaches really enjoy working with kids and seeing them thrive. This place is the real deal, couldn’t recommend it more.
This gym is 100% five stars. I came in for my very first jiu jitsu class as a total beginner and couldn’t have asked for a better experience. From the moment I walked in, everyone was welcoming and made me feel comfortable right away. The instructors are patient and clear, and the more experienced members were super helpful instead of intimidating. Rolling for an hour is no joke—it’s exhausting in the best way and honestly one of the toughest (and most fun) workouts I’ve ever had. You walk out drenched, tired, and already looking forward to the next class. I’ll probably never be a serious competitor, but just building confidence, learning how to defend myself, and getting this kind of workout is absolutely worth it. I’m hooked and will definitely be back.
I can’t say enough good things about 10p Tigard. Sam Hardy was my fundamentals coach back in the Portland gym. He truly made it so fun to be in class. Amber has been one of my highly competitive training partners, and rolling with her has taught me so much. The coaches here are highly skilled and know how to break things down so you actually get it. Every class I walk away learning something new. The vibe is super welcoming, and the people here make training even more fun. Whether you’re brand new or have been rolling for years, you’ll feel right at home.
