This is an outstanding place to train. I visited a few gyms in the OKC area while in town for work, and Professor Sampaio stood out as the most competent and welcoming, with the highest level of pedagogy and training standards. The evening classes I attended followed a well-structured format: a ten-minute warm-up, ten minutes of drilling, twenty minutes on the move of the day, twenty minutes of rolling, and a ten-minute plyometric workout. What impressed me most was the logical progression of the move of the day. Attending consistently allows you to build a solid game within just a few weeks. I noticed this both during drilling and while rolling afterward. Even when sparring with lower belts, I had to work toward positions I was strong in rather than relying solely on class material—an outcome that highlights Professor Sampaio’s overarching theory of “Gameness.” The culture of the gym is excellent. Despite being a visitor, members quick
I was in Oklahoma for 3 months due to work and luckily found this gym. The first day I walked in I was welcomed like I was family and over the months trained with coaches Sandro, Austin and Brett. They all have exceptional talent and knowledge and have helped my jiujitsu tremendously while giving me a solid friend group while I was there. Whether you want to train for self defense, a hobby, to compete, or just curiosity they are more than capable of teaching you. The hardest part is walking through the door for the first time as a beginner and if you’re reading this debating on whether or not you should try it out or are unsure what gym to choose I can not recommend these guys enough.
Renshi Sandro is amazing. He has genuine aptitude. It's a no-brainer; he's been training since the age of 5, beginning in Rio De Janeiro (BJJ Mecca), still actively practices and competes, and is a 5th degree black belt under the greats: Carlson Gracie Jr, Luis Carlos 'Manimal,' and formerly Paulo Filho. He has dedicated his life to the art. Edit: After spending almost three years with Sandro, this place has become family, and I absolutely mean that. The people who stay are those who welcome with open arms. I've been honored to be one of the coaches (primarily for kid's classes), and I've learned a lot from Master Sandro. Lastly, and a minor reiteration: a lot of the reviews are very accurate, respective to Professor Sandro's character: he leads by example with respect and patience, providing a family environment.
I could never say enough about Sandro or his gym. My daughter has been going there for 3 years and I have trained there off and on when my work schedule allows. He is a great man and a even better Jiu Jitsu coach. When he says his BJJ family that is exactly what he means and how you're treated. Several times when my daughter has been sick he has came by our house just to check on her and when we lost everything to the May 20th tornado Sandro went above and beyond to help us with everything we needed. We love Sandro just like family.
5 out of 5 stars!!! When I do business with anyone character, customer service and personality take precedent over price for me. So, after calling emailing and talking to several martial arts gyms I eagerly decided on this one for my daughter. Sandro Sampaio was direct, clear and to the point about what he offered, what he expected and the associated cost. But what set him apart form all the other gyms were his life story, his commitment to family, respect modesty, and honesty to name a few things. Additionally, he was welcoming, friendly and helpful. I know there are other BJJ Academies but look no further if you want to experience more than just BJJ. This is a place i feel safe with my daughter attending.
I had the pleasure of visiting from another Carlson Gracie gym in Ashland Oregon. I only got to train a few times but every one was so welcoming and friendly the coach welcomed me with open arms and said his gym was my home and I felt it. I am sad I didn’t get to say bye before I left as I got sick and didn’t want to get anyone else training sick. Thank you coach for your hospitality ! Only place I will train in okc !! OSS
