I’ve trained at a lot of schools around here, and what really stands out about this one is that the jiu-jitsu seems be a little better for modern MMA You start from the feet. You work takedowns treat standing exchanges like they matter because they do. There’s a massive difference between a marital artist who’s spent five years at a BJJ school that regularly trains takedowns and someone who’s spent five years at a school that doesn’t. On paper, they both have “five years of jiu-jitsu.” In reality, one has 5 years of training takedown defense and offense the other has zero At a lot of other gyms, starting from standing is weirdly uncommon. I’ve literally asked people with 3-4 years of training at other schools to start standing during live rolls, and they’ve said things like, “I don’t know if we’re allowed… I’ve never really done that before.” I just always pull guard” When we did start standing it almost felt like wrestling with someone
Emerald City is an amazing gym. The instructors are all black belts. They are not only great at doing Jiu Jitsu, they are great at teaching Jiu Jitsu. They encourage all of us, whether we compete or not. The people who train at Emerald City are wonderful as well. It's a fabulous place to learn and practice Jiu Jitsu.
Switching to Emerald City has been an incredible experience! The coaching staff is both highly knowledgeable and genuinely friendly, making every class engaging and easy to follow for all skill levels. The gym’s culture is welcoming and supportive, with respectful training partners and a strong sense of community. If you’re looking to improve your skills while feeling part of something special, ECJJ is the perfect place!
My experience at ECJJ has been nothing short of amazing. Everyone here is very respectful and works hard. I've learned a great deal of knowledge from each black belt coach in every class. Their attention to detail and emphasis on training what will work in each situation has been a game changer for me and I've learned a great new deal of knowledge across the spectrum of all the classes.
Dropped in traveling for the weekend. I messaged the page on Facebook and didn’t receive a response. I decided to pop in and see anyways. I couldn’t be happier that I did. It was a highlight of the weekend. Usually going into a gym there’s a bit of uncomfortably or less attention to drop ins. This wasn’t the case at all. Freddie ran an excellent class with great technique. Rolling with the crew that was there was very technical and safe. Great vibes, lots of respect and clean. I will most definitely stop in every time I’m near the area.
Great gym, awesome facility and instructors..this school offers bjj, nogi jiu jitsu, wrestling, judo, striking, I mean what more could you ask for. Ten round Tuesdays for those who want the challenge, definitely not worth missing.
