How have I not reviewed Gentle Art Studio yet? At a technical level, Professor Eduardo is one of the OG, highest level Brazilian Jiu Jitsu instructors you'll find in NYC. He leads the international Lotus Club BJJ network from Gentle Art Studio, so you also have access to the world's top BJJ practitioners as instructors and visiting instructors. What is just as obvious is how hard Prof. Eduardo and Kelly work to make this place embody their principles of BJJ for all. They practice what they preach, they treat all students from all walks of life with respect and encouragement, and they expect all their instructors to be equally generous with their patience, positivity, and empowerment. It's absolutely a unique place to grow as a person - and develop your skills as a competitor, if you so choose. I've been training at Lotus for a little over a year. As a woman I wanted to get some self-defense training and try out Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ), but I was afraid of being in a super masculine space. To my surprise it was exactly what I was looking for: a challenging workout, the self-defense is invaluable, and learning BJJ has made me so self-aware of where my strength is. The 6pm class is essential for any beginner. The 7pm class workout is awesome!! The best part is that there is a mixture of belt ranks at both these classes and everyone is always willing to support, teach, and explain techniques. Great one on one attention. Love the environment and how welcoming everyone is. Great energy!
Joining Gentle Art Studio was life changing! Training BJJ in a safe, welcoming, supportive environment not only improved my skills tremendously, but also boosted my confidence and my motivation. I can't recommend this place enough. Aside from the BJJ being top-notch, the people here make all the difference. From the staff to the training partners to the visiting instructors (who are world-class athletes). This place will make you fall in love with BJJ, believe in yourself, and challenge you to grow, both on and off the mats.

A great atmosphere with fantastic instruction. I dropped in for a class while I was in the area for the 6:15 technique class. In instruction was great, everyone in class was welcoming, and I had some great rolls at the end of class. Additonally, the whole facility and the mats were really clean and the staff at the front desk were welcoming. Just he aware it's white gi only (but they have loaner gis if you need one). I'm excited to drop in again when I have a chance.
Great school with the best instructor and awesome classmates. Their flexible schedule makes coming to class so easy. The training is awesome no matter what time of the day you choose to train. Professor Santos is a gentleman and has created a great family feeling to his classroom and all are always welcomed.
