Bayshore Brazilian Jiu Jitsu reviews

Rated 5.0/5 across 282 Google reviews.

We recently signed our sons up for Bayshore Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and I can honestly say we have been extremely impressed with the program. From the very first class, it was clear how organized the instruction is and how thoughtfully each class is run. What stands out most is Professor Joe, the owner and head instructor. The way he speaks to the children and the messages he consistently reinforces about respect, discipline, listening, and supporting one another is truly impressive. As not only a father, but also a teacher and coach myself, I am incredibly impressed with how effectively and positively he delivers these messages to his students. One of the most meaningful aspects of Bayshore Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for our family is the Saturday morning parent-and-child class. Professor Joe invites parents onto the mat to train alongside their children, while still providing detailed instruction, constant encouragement, and powerful life lesso
This is the best place on earth. I’ve wanted to start Jiu Jitsu for years and a few months ago I finally took that step. From the first class, I’ve felt so comfortable being there. Every single one of my classmates has been so helpful and will stop and slow things down to sharpen your technique. These classes also get competitive. We’re all dripping sweat by the end. Joe Dockery is an awesome instructor/coach and not just for bjj, but for life. I leave every class having learned something new, whether it be about myself or Jiu Jitsu. His passion for the sport shows on the mat. He’s built something amazing that I’m glad I’m part of. If you’re thinking about starting Jiu Jitsu or continuing and sharpening your skills for competition, this is the place to be.
Bayshore Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is an outstanding place to train, whether you’re a complete beginner or have years of experience. Professor Joe is an excellent teacher. He is patient, knowledgeable, and truly dedicated to helping every student grow. He breaks down techniques in a way that’s easy to understand and always creates a positive, motivating environment on the mats. The establishment itself is exceptionally clean and well maintained, which adds to the overall comfort and professionalism of the academy. You can tell the staff takes pride in keeping the space welcoming and safe for everyone. All egos are left outside and it’s overall a great place to have fun whether you are training for fun, to compete, or have a professional career. I would definitely recommend this place to my friends and family.
BayShore BJJ has made such a difference for our family. I've always had to force my son into trying new activities, and at first he really didn't want to go. But because of the amazing atmosphere and coaches at BayShore BJJ, he no longer minds going — and that is a huge step for us. I truly believe that one day he will not just go... he'll love it. The academy is always clean, well-kept, and-thankfully-there are no stinky smells, which is a big deal when it comes to gyms and kids' classes. It's a comfortable, welcoming place where my son feels safe and supported. I'm incredibly grateful to BayShore BJJ for helping make this progress possible. Highly recommend!
Bayshore Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has been an incredible experience for our family. Watching my son grow—not just in skill, but in confidence, discipline, and mindset—has been truly rewarding. The instructors are hands-on, patient, and genuinely invested in each student’s development. What makes this place even more special is the opportunity for father-son bonding. Training together has strengthened our relationship and given us quality time built around respect, hard work, and learning. The teachings go far beyond jiu jitsu techniques—they emphasize character, accountability, and perseverance. I’m extremely grateful for the positive environment Bayshore BJJ provides and highly recommend it to any parent looking for real growth, strong values, and top-tier instruction.
I signed my 8 year old son up in October . It was by far the best thing I ever did. After trying a few other places before I heard of Bayshore BJJ I was a little nervous it would be not such a great experience but I called Bayshore BJJ and spoke to coach Joe and explained who my son was , his struggles etc , he made me feel comfortable right away and told me to bring him him and try a class , needless to say we signed him up that same day and he has been going 4 days a week since . They exceeded my expectations. James absolutely LOVED this place , he felt comfortable , I felt comfortable . The staff is amazing and welcoming . It has helped my son with focus , discipline and confidence not only in ju jit su but in every other part of his life also.
