Professor Joe has a wealth of knowledge and experience that he is able to easily teach to new students like myself. He is extremely passionate about Jiujitsu and makes it incredible easy to want to keep showing up to continue to learn from him. He not only offers first class jiujitsu instruction but also offers classes to prepare you for real world scenarios and how to defend yourself in situations that can happen outside of the gym as well. The community within the gym is extremely welcoming and everyone, especially Joe is always willing to help no matter what your experience level is. You will be glad you joined such a great school with one of the most highly regarded instructors in Jiujitsu and self defense!
As a tourist that regularly visits and trains abroad different countries, I could say: this Gym is a gem! Let’s start of with the great students and coaches: they were all social, nice and talkative during the class. It felt like I’ve trained there with them for months! While the classes started the coaches really took their time to explain the techniques that are great for competitors and hobbyists. They explained the techniques and made sure, that we knew what to do when your opponent will counter. Last but not least: after the class you have time to ask the coaches questions about anything you come across during drills/rolls and once that is done, there will be some small talk with students and coaches to get to know each other. For anyone looking for a professional and a social MMA/BJJ gym: I would highly recommend this place! Thank you for having me! OSS!
I started training Jiu Jitsu under Joe Ahlert almost 15 years ago and I learn something every time I train with him. His knowledge and passion runs so deep you can’t help but notice it in his teaching. He truly cares for his students and wants everyone around him to excel. His dedication to learning doesn’t stop at Jiu Jitsu. He has taken to seeking out training in combative’s and firearms from some of the top schools in the nation and bringing that knowledge to his students. I can’t recommend training with him enough if you want to learn how to be a better and more confident version of yourself.
I started training Jiu Jitsu under Joe Ahlert 17 years ago. Starting day one I noticed how much he loves to teach and see his students grow. His attention to detail and willingness to answer any question during or after class, no matter how long it took! I can honestly say I would not have the love or been able to reach this level of Jiu Jitsu if not for Joe Ahlert! I highly recommend to anyone interested in learning high level Jiu Jitsu to stop in and get started!!
I was lucky to meet Joe at the beginning of my Jiu Jitsu journey in 2002. At the time Joe was a blue belt and was the BJJ instructor at Matawan martial arts. Since day one Joe has been a fantastic teacher. His attention to detail and way of getting his message across is really second to none. He is also constantly growing and learning himself, passing those skills and methods to his students. Joe is the teacher that always has the right answer. It will be hard to find another teacher on Joes level. With the love for BJJ and his talent for teaching. If you’re lucky enough to be in the Hazlet area, take advantage of the opportunity and learn from Joe
