The smiles says it all. I started training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu on May 17, 2007. Shortly afterwards, I learned there was a martial art and sport called Judo. There were 4 judokas who I learned about at that time: Ronda Rousey, Taraje Willliams-Murray, Jimmy Pedro, and Dr. Rhadi Ferguson. Sometime in 2008, I got my hands on a Grip Fighting Quick Start Guide - a product of Dr. Rhadi Ferguson and Jimmy Pedro. That was my initial contact with the expertise of Dr. Rhadi. Fast forward, 14 years. Between 2008 and 2021, I befriended Dr. Rhadi Ferguson through social media. We kept in touch all those years as he watched me develope throughout my Jiu-Jitsu journey - always giving sage advice and perspective on BJJ, Judo, and Life as a whole. On June 14, 2021, I decided to go back to the roots of BJJ and study Judo (thoroughly). As I took my initial steps in Judo, being a 1st Degree Black Belt in BJJ, I knew Dr. Rhadi was THE GURU to help me mak
When I first brought my son Jackson to Tampa Florida Judo, I was just looking for a place where he could learn some discipline, get in shape, and stay out of trouble. What I didn’t know was that I was walking into something far more impactful than just a martial arts program. Dr. Rhadi Ferguson doesn’t just teach throws and submissions—he teaches life. He has pulled Jackson off the mat mid-session to make sure his homework was done. He’s checked in on his grades. He’s held him accountable, not just as an athlete, but as a young man growing into himself. The training is hard. It’s intense. There have been days where Jackson felt like it was too much. But the son I have today is tougher, more focused, more respectful, and more determined than the one I dropped off on day one—and that transformation is 100% because of the environment Dr. Ferguson creates. What makes Dr. Ferguson special isn’t just that he’s an Olympian or a world-class coa
Wow, the level of instruction at this gym is high as ever, looking at the credentials of the head instructor, Dr. Rhadi Ferguson, and you’ll see why. Great coaching in detail of moves and ability of Dr. Ferguson to communicate is among the best I’ve seen. The students there are great too, especially the kids. I was very impressed with them. Their toughness, coachability, technique, strength, and so much more. Dr. Ferguson has created some genuine mat monsters. Something I found very unique is he is bilingual, I haven’t seen that stated anywhere. He’d coach some students in English, switch to Spanish for other students, and back to English for others. All without skipping a beat. Over all a great place if you’re into Judo or Jiu Jitsu. You can’t go wrong training at this gym!
I am an online student of Dr Ferg, training for both Judo (my main martial arts activity) and BJJ. He is not an ordinary coach - he's proven (an Olympian for starters!), he's an educator, and he's demanding - exactly what you want in a coach. His technical coaching is precise, his demands for work ethic ever present, his structure of delivery well thought through, and if you put in the reps and do the work, the results are as expected - excellent! For example, I've drilled various armbars nearly 2,000 times in the past two months in line with Dr Ferg's program, and I can tell you now that my ability and speed in executing them now is 1000% better after two months than it was after 2 years of practicing Judo and BJJ 5x a week. I'm on the other side of the planet to Tampa Florida Judo but I would not hesitate for a second to train there with my children if I was close enough. Dr Ferg is a truly exemplary human being and coach - you will n
Tampa Florida Judo is home to one of the TOP/BEST Judo instructors in the country that is Dr. Rhadi Ferguson. I first heard heard about Dr. Ferguson through my BJJ instructor Rob Kahn (Royce Gracie Black Belt) and he strongly encouraged me to learn under him. Dr. Ferguson has an incredible understanding of Judo both on the technical and mental side. While his teaching style may seem unconventional at first; it is second to none as he knows exactly what it takes to be a world-class, professional Judo/BJJ athlete. He understands aspects of Judo that many other coaches don’t, even at the international level. Essentially - The years I spent learning under him was when the lightbulb turned on in my head for Judo. While training under Dr. Ferguson; I finished a silver medalist at the 2016 Collegiate National Judo Championships and a bronze medalist at the 2016 US Open Judo Championships. Needless to say, if you are looking for a dojo to learn
I had the opportunity to train under Dr. Rhadi Ferguson at Tampa Florida Judo, and it was one of the best training experiences I’ve had. What stands out most about Coach Rhadi is his attention to detail. He emphasizes clean, precise technique and high-level conditioning from day one. Every session is structured, intense, and purposeful. You’re not just going through drills — you’re building real skill and real performance. He holds his athletes to a high standard because he genuinely believes in developing them to their full potential. Whether you’re training competitively or just want to improve, you’ll grow quickly under his guidance. If you’re serious about judo, this is the place to train.
