Lucas isn’t just insanely talented on the mats he’s authentic, humble, and genuinely cares about the people who train here. From day one, this place felt like home, not a commercial gym or an ego-driven environment. The energy is solid, the people are down to earth, and everyone is there to actually get better. What really sets this place apart is the family atmosphere. Lucas’s wife and kids are there every day, and you can feel that this gym is built on values, not hype. No politics, no fake toughness, just honest training, respect, and growth. Whether you’re a beginner or experienced, you’re treated like family. If you want high-level BJJ in an environment that’s welcoming, disciplined, and real, you won’t find better. Highly recommend.
Wonderful kids program. Best in the bay and I love my kids are being trained by a real Brazilian black belt in jiu jitsu and not a lower belt or another kid. Very structured and organized and the kids know exactly what they need to do to get promoted and be successful. New and very clean facility and the complementary coffee for the adults is a bonus. My kids love it, they are learning and advancing in their jiu jitsu journey and are having a lot of fun. My son is more confident and is no longer timid around other boys who are bigger than him.
Exceptional Jiu Jitsu academy!!! I dropped in for a training session while out of town on a work trip, and I was blown away by the level of instruction and hospitality. Professor Lucas was phenomenal at explaining the "why" and "how to" behind every technique. His instructions were very clear, concise, and technically brilliant. I leaned so much in just one session. Professor Lucas runs a passionate and dedicated community, and if you are looking for a great place to train with positive and supportive vibe, this is it. This is a MUST visit and train for any Jiu-Jitsu practitioner in the area. Whether you are a local or just passing through, do yourself a favor and stop in for a session...you won't regret it!
I was looking for a place for my son to have discipline guidance and to learn obedience and how to protect himself from bullies and learn life lessons that can save him, but to also have control and know went to avoid fights and my son has learned so much from the time that he's been there which has been 3 months now. not just at the martial arts but in school and at home his attitude has changed and looks up to Mr Lucas his professor.I came across Gracie Barra on my Facebook feed I am very grateful because every other place that I have contacted was too expensive and I feel like other places are more about the money and not about teaching individuals control safety and protection as soon as I contacted professor Lucas before opening The Martian arts School We spoke constantly he always checked on my son.
