Was visiting some friends and family down in Clearwater, Fl and was referred to train at Safety Harbor Jiu-Jitsu by my coach (Alex of Mastersya). Alex informed me that they have been long time friends and evern visited the gym a few times before. Trusting my coach's words I made the visit! I attended the Thursday Noon class and Nico (Brown Belt) was the instructor. Nico and everyone at the gym was very welcoming! they introduced themselves and asked where have I trained before. A fellow Blue Belt (Justin) made it his mission to make sure everything flowed nicely between introductions, training, and rounds. I was little sadden to have not meet the owners of the gym as they were traveling. HOWEVER, my entire experience at Saftey Harbor was amazing! Again, the people were welcoming and generous, the training was hard and well needed, and the facility was well kept and clean! I will most definitely use Safety Harbor as my go-to gym to train
From the almost 50 year old hobbyist with a night work schedule, pre existing injures, a 20+ minute commute to and from, with little to no physical attributes, and still here going on 5 years… Safety is paramount and not only will you have this mindset so do your training partners. You will receive real time feedback from head instructor and coaches during general classes and have opportunities for private instruction if preferred. Striking class is also available. Nothing else exists during the 1 to 1.25 hours of training except for the moment. Great relief from daily stressors at the same time gaining health benefits. Community of like minded individuals who are not only training for themselves, but also there to contribute to the positive vibe and your self improvement. Yes! I recommend SHJJ from beginner to experienced, hobbyists to competitors, young to old who want to be present and make appropriate decisions under the most challe
It can be intimidating learning a new sport, especially as a female in a male dominated sport. I knew I wanted a gym that was focused on learning rather than ego and one that puts emphasis on safety. (Because who has time to be injured?) I looked into a few different gyms before I found Safety Harbor Jiu Jitsu and realized it was the perfect fit. Safety harbor Jiu Jitsu has a supportive and welcoming community. Everyone is willing to help each other learn and progress. Muchacho is not only a highly skilled instructor but also attentive to each student's individual needs and abilities. He always makes sure that everyone is training in a safe and controlled environment, which is essential when you're learning a contact sport. He breaks down complex techniques into manageable steps, making it accessible for beginners like me. The atmosphere is one of constant learning and growth. I couldn't be happier with my decision to train here!
This is a very good place to start your jiu-jitsu journey! The head instructor, who we call Muchacho, is the most patient and knowledgeable martial artist I have met, and I have done martial arts for nearly 10 years. He keeps a very excellent eye on everyone in the class to make sure students don't hurt each other. Don't be afraid to join if you are completely new! Muchacho will make sure you learn properly and safely. He will pair you with the right people every roll. The school is filled with great people to learn with and from. You will always leave with a lot of sweat on your face. It feels like a big family. Sadly, for medical reasons, I had to take a hiatus after a few months, but I fully intend on going back to learn the art of jiu-jitsu here and only here when my issues are resolved. Out of all martial arts schools I have attended, this is above and beyond the best one. Made some good friends along the way! Overall 5/5 because t
Safety Harbor BJJ is an excellent facility with a great atmosphere! The mats are high quality, clean, and stylish, much like Prof. Muchacho himself! All of the members are incredibly encouraging and genuinely want you to succeed at building a useful skill while also getting an intense workout in. There is also a large variety of skill levels, so you're consistently getting a new, exciting challenge whenever you roll with someone. The instruction by Prof. Muchacho is of the utmost quality. He is clear, concise, and very technical with his approach to the game. You won't find anyone better than him. Whether you're trying to learn the art of Jiu Jitsu or just want a new way to workout, you can't go wrong with Safety Harbor BJJ!
I wouldn’t want to train anywhere else for many reasons. Here are some of them: The instructors and other members are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet, always eager to help you learn. They run an Essentials class (for beginners) where you essentially get one-on-one attention to master basic / advanced tactics. Also, multiple advanced classes every day. The classes are spread out throughout the day, making it easy to fit into any schedule, and the place is spotless. Finally, it's in Safety Harbor, which is one of the coolest areas in the Tampa/St. Pete area.
