Freedom Jiu-Jitsu feels like a tight-knit family welcoming you w/open arms and encouraging one another to be better. They have a low tolerance for bullying, drama, and inflated egos. A heart for our country’s veterans & first responders. No gi ever required. Never a contract or outrageous gym fee. Open mat is always free and drop-in’s are more than welcome. Clean and quality mats. True to its name, I highly recommend training at Freedom Jiu-Jitsu to anyone wanting to improve their BJJ skills and ability to defend themselves and others. As someone who has known Mikhail for many years, I can tell you there’s nobody more passionate about Jiu-Jitsu than this guy! He has dedicated his entire adult life/free time to this gentle art. When he’s not training, he’s talking about training. His attention to detail and technique separate him from the rest. And the care he puts into creating a clean and safe space to roll goes well beyond the mats. H
Mikhail does an excellent job of not only teaching but also creating a friendly environment for everybody of every skill level. He teaches a practical BJJ system that can be used in both BJJ competition and in MMA and self defense. What separates Mikhail and Freedom Jiu Jitsu is the way he emphasizes wrestling and posistional drilling and builds curriculum off that. Plus open mat is always free, so students regularly see new faces and get challenged by different competition. No matter your experience, physique, or style Freedom Jiu Jitsu has something to offer.
Freedom Jiujitsu is a great place to train in Pensacola. Mikhail is a great instructor and friend. He cares about his students and watching them grow. It is also a very clean space as I have seen him clean the mats every time I have come to train. The Sunday open mat is a highlight of my weekend. I am excited to see just how far Freedom jiujitsu goes.
Coach Mikhail is an amazing athlete, coach, and person. Just an all around solid guy! If you want to get better at Jiu Jitsu, this is your place! Coach Mikhail might not give you the soft gentle push if you’re looking for that, he’s going to push you and not sugar coat it. Which is the best kind of Jiu Jitsu IMO. My favorite day of the week is going to freedom jiu Jitsu and training hard.
Mikhail and Ashley are fantastic people. I was looking for a drop in class just to get a quick session and they were more than happy to allow me some mat time. The team was friendly and I felt right at home. Mikhail was a great training partner. The transitions from position to position felt smooth and very natural. Roll with Mikhail and you will see his jiu jitsu is super legit and he is willing to share the vast knowledge and experience he has acquired over the years. If you are ever in the area or looking for a gym to call home this is the one! Again thank you Mikhail and Ashley for opening your gym to me and thank a to your team for making me feel right at home.
FJJ offers high level instruction and plenty of classes to fit just about everyone's schedule. They also recently kicked off a kids program and women-only classes. Being a new gym, we are still growing and class sizes are currently pretty small. This allows for more personal and detailed instruction. However, FJJ hosts an "open mat" session every Sunday (free to everyone) where we often have visitors from many different gyms in the area. This is great to test yourself and to prepare for competitions if you choose to participate in them (which is not required). I'm a happy customer.
