I trained under David and Brad for 4 years before moving out of state. The culture they have created is unlike any other. I’ve met some of my best friends at 9th Jiu Jitsu. I’ve also gotten in great shape and learned critical self defense skills at 40. If you are looking for a welcoming, friendly, warm place where people can also go hard while learning the art of Brazilian jiu jitsu, this is the spot.
Instructors David is a very patient teacher and works well kids of various skill levels. From beginner to upper belts. Respect is highly emphasized. Respect for the instructors, for training partners, for teachers. For parents and for themselves. Very watchful over the class during base battles/sparing. Always encouraging the students, even the few times someone might get a little aggressive or angry. Respect is the key and discipline.
I would highly recommend 9th Jiu Jitsu to anyone interested in learning self-defense, sport Jiu Jitsu or just trying to get into shape or bring their fitness to the next level. David is one of the most knowledgeable and detailed instructors I've ever met and is just an all around great person. The atmosphere he creates in his school makes this an ideal training facility for people of all ages, fitness levels and walks of life.
David Fernandes is an excellent jiu-jitsu instructor. His technique is of the highest caliber, as his character. He has a true desire to see all of his students grow on and off the mats. I cannot recommend 9th Jiu-Jitsu enough.
Visited Pensacola on a work trip and this gym was the closest one to my hotel. So glad I came, David is an awesome instructor! learned some cool details on back takes and various sweeps and subs from the position we worked on. Training partners were excellent and if I ever end up in Pensacola again, I will return to 9th Jiu Jitsu!
