Clean, Approachable, Professional BJJ Gym. - Great people make a great gym. The professors and other people who train here were extremely welcoming to a newcomer. The professors are approachable, and know their stuff. They take time to make sure you understand what's important. - The pricing wasn't pushy and can be customized. This gym has a punchcard option for membership which is helpful for people who can only go once or twice a week, or people who need flexibility. - There is a good mix of beginner/intermediate/advanced classes available. Within each category, there are options with different intensity levels. - Getting started was low stress and easy. Francisco got me set up with everything needed and he's a phenominal teacher. Troy's daytime class was also excellent. The other people in the classes were welcoming and helpful.
Best BJJ gym I've trained at, hands-down. Professor Troy is a legend. I was a bit intimidated at first by the emphasis on stand-up and wrestling (I had zero contact, much less combat, sport experience prior to BJJ) and most gyms I've visited focus almost solely on the ground game. But I'm so thankful that I stuck with it. If you don't get comfortable on your feet, your Jiu-Jitsu will never be very useful in a self-defense scenario, and you will have to resort to guard-pulling in competitions. Thanks to my time here, I took down all of my opponents in my first competition. I didn't win every time, but having a superior standup game was a huge advantage and confidence booster for me. The community at this gym is outstanding and I am seriously going to miss it when we move out of state. Don't settle on a gym in FoCo until you've visited FoCoBJJ.
I'm a lifelong martial artist and grappler, and have been training jiu jitsu for ten years now so I've been to a few schools during that time and I must say FOCO BJJ is at the top of the best schools I've ever visited. I was welcomed with open arms, everyone was very respectful, no egos, super clean mats and bathrooms (with showers!), and a positive culture. Open mat on Saturday went well and then attended Professor Matt's class the following Monday morning and learned some advanced techniques and applications. Awesome class! Can't recommend these guys enough.
FocoBJJ is hands down the best place to train in Fort Collins. After checking out a few gyms, I found FocoBJJ to be the most welcoming and inclusive. The level of technique and training is unmatched, and in just over a year, my bjj techniques/skills have grown exponentially. The environment is positive, the instructors are top-notch, and the community is wonderful. I’m incredibly grateful for the people who make this gym special and for the lasting friendships I’ve built through training here. Highly recommend!
This is not a paid endorsement. FoCo Bjj’s Jiu-Jitsu education is unparalleled. Their proximity to CSU allows students & staff to roll and work with ease! Professor Wes’s Early Bird 6:30-7:30am classes will either introduce you to the world of Jiu Jitsu with efficiency, or take your game to the next level. His situational drill focused approach, paired with ample time to roll is some of the best educational content I have experienced. Being able to join a gym in its early stages is a unique and powerful opportunity to experience the community and the gym itself grow with you!
I have been training here about two years now and this place has became a home away from home. I rarely leave without a smile on my face. The professors, coaches and students all make a point of being welcoming to anyone who walks in the door. It's a matter of fact that's not up for debate that FoCo BJJ offers the best jiu Jitsu in fort collins if not the whole noco area. Great place full of great folks.
