I've been attending the adult basics and advanced level Gi and No-gi classes at Chroma for several months now. As a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, I've been to a few gyms, and Chroma Jiu-jitsu is absolutely among the best I've seen. Everyone is engaging, kind, and patient. They prioritize making the gym environment a safe and fun place to learn the art of folding your friends into pretzels, where you can keep coming back day after day. I have never worried about getting injured and sitting out for weeks on end, or getting judged for "not being good enough" which has always plagued me in the back of my mind throughout my Jiu-jitsu journey. When picking a new gym, I always look for a few key things: Transparency, Competency, and Culture. Everything on Chroma's website is spelled out, from fees to the daily schedule, coaching staff and their backgrounds, as well as cancelation policy, etc. I don't want to have to jump through any hoop
Chroma Jiu Jitsu is life changing. My son started going there in the fall, and has thrived under the kind care and guidance of Professor Damien. My kiddo is a highly athletic kid who hates team sports, BJJ is the perfect thing for him, he’s so proud when he earns a promotion, and he’s not concerned with winning and what all the other kids are doing like he was in soccer. The real life change is for me though, I started classes there about 6 weeks ago. I’m a 42 year old moderately in shape full time working mom of two. Last year I suffered multiple injuries as a result of multi-tasking and not be present with my own body and surroundings. BJJ is helping me get better awareness of myself and my body overall. It’s complicated enough for me, that all the noise of the day and in my brain goes away for the hour I’m on the mats. I think of it as a physical form of meditation. 2026 Update - As a 40+ mother of two who had never done any martial
I’ve been training at Chroma for a few months now, and I can honestly say it’s one of the best academies I’ve experienced. As a brown belt, I’ve trained at a variety of gyms and seen different coaching styles and environments, and Chroma stands out among the top. Professor Damien is incredibly welcoming and makes a genuine effort to ensure every student gets the attention and support they need. The atmosphere is very comfortable and friendly. When you’re training multiple days a week, the vibe matters and Chroma has built a friendly, positive, and comfortable environment that makes you want to keep coming back. The classes are well structured, and the techniques are taught clearly and effectively. Whether you’re just starting out or continuing your jiu jitsu journey, I highly recommend giving Chroma a try.
The day I decided to contact Professor Damien was the day that set the ball rolling for my life to change for the better in innumerable ways. I had been interested in learning some kind of combat training for quite a few years. I was apprehensive due to not knowing what to expect as far as being unsure of what I am capable of and the other people I would have to train with. I had heard a lot about the egos & bro-mentality that often come with those who train in combat sports. When I was perusing local gyms, Chroma was the only gym that listed the prices on their website. This transparency was a show of integrity, which is very important to me. I didn't want to call around to all of these gyms to ask for their prices only to have them all try to "sell me" on a test class to get me in the door. The gyms claiming they're worried about cost scaring away adult students are falling back on a very poor excuse. A simple search will inform you o
Chroma Jiu-Jitsu is an incredible place of learning, support, community and inclusion! Owner Professor Damien understands these things deeply and cultivates a rewarding experience for each participant. I am new to Jiu-jitsu, and felt the utmost support in all the learning I have done in the last nine months. While feeling supported is important for anyone practicing, I think it is particularly relevant for me, being a woman and having experienced other gyms and athletic places where I felt I didn’t belong. Sometimes it seemed intentional, but most times it just felt like no one was looking out for how participants may experience classes if they are not a man. Not at Chroma- because all things are done with intention here! I highly recommend Chroma to anyone, for their adult or kids programs, but especially to women. Jiu-jitsu is an incredible practice of strength and discipline that teaches you so much about yourself. If there’s any pla
I love this place. The professors and coaches are all encouraging, skilled and considerate. There is a real community here, not just the stereotypical bro-mentality. I’m interested in competing, but I know plenty of others there who are not. Classes are set up for success with the first class being dedicated to learning the techniques under the watchful eyes of the instructors. There’s lots of opportunities to practice correctly. The following class is sparring. Sparring classes are the best workouts of my week. Since joining, I’ve gained more strength and lost almost 15 pounds. If you’re interested in functional fitness, self defense or competition, I recommend you check out this dojo.
