I’ve been training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu since 1999, but after taking an eight-year break, I was very selective about where I would return and where I would trust my kids to train. Gracie Boulder absolutely exceeded my expectations. The facility itself is outstanding: centrally located in the city of Boulder, immaculately clean, a huge mat space, plenty of parking, and thoughtful areas where kids can hang out while adults train. It’s clearly designed with families in mind. The professors are top-notch, extremely knowledgeable, patient, and detail-oriented. They’re excellent with kids and equally great with adults. You can tell they truly care about teaching correctly, safely, and effectively. What really sets this academy apart is the Gracie pedigree. Learning from the inventors of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is something special, and this is a true system, not just random techniques. You can train at any Gracie academy worldwide, and Gracie Univ
I couldn’t be more pleased with this gym. My 10 year old daughter and 7 year old son both train here, and the instructors are great at tailoring the BJJ techniques in a way the kids and understand. My son had trained at another gym prior to this one, and they weren’t as catering to kids of different skill levels and didn’t provide enough oversight when they would practice with partners. Fidel and Carla are great at making sure all the kids get the attention they need while also making training fun. My son left his old gym feeling discouraged with jiu jitsu, but coming here has given both him and my daughter a new passion. I appreciate that they provided a trial period prior to committing to a membership. They also have a room for other kids to play while their siblings or parents are training - huge plus for those of us carting around other kids during classes. If my schedule allowed for it, I’d also be training here in the adult classe
I returned to training from a five-year jiu jitsu hiatus. From the first day, I knew that I had found the right gym and it felt like "home". Fidel and Carla were welcoming and accommodating and instantly treated me like jiu jitsu family. They are top-notch instructors and really care about quality instruction for kids, women, and anyone who wants to learn jiu jitsu. The other gym members and my training partners have been respectful, helpful, and most importantly, fun to train with! There are a ton of classes offered throughout the week to fit my schedule ranging from self defense to advanced jiu jitsu.
I CANNOT say enough good things about Gracie Jiu Jitsu Boulder! THIS PLACE IS TRULY EXCEPTIONAL. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere felt warm, inviting, and absolutely beginner-friendly, yet you can tell immediately that the level of instruction makes it just as valuable for advanced practitioners. The curriculum is incredibly well-structured, realistic, and focused on true street-readiness. Everything is taught with purpose and clarity, and you can feel how quickly you’re progressing because every class builds on the last in a thoughtful, intentional way AND always targets the most common threats in any aggressive situation. The growth potential here is just unreal — I’ve learned more in weeks than I expected to learn in months (after experience training at multiple other gyms across the country). The instructors, Fidel and Carla deserve their own paragraph (or storybook) because they are on another level, plain and simple. Ea
As a mom, finding the right place for my kids has always been important to me. We weren’t looking for a competitive sport — we were looking for confidence, discipline, and real-life skills. From day one, the instructors made us feel welcome. The structure of the classes is incredible. There’s a perfect balance between discipline and fun, and my kids actually look forward to coming every week. What I appreciate most is that this isn’t just about “moves” — it’s about learning how to stay calm under pressure, how to set boundaries, and how to defend themselves in real-life situations. As a mom, that peace of mind is priceless. The facility is clean, organized, and professional. The communication is clear, and you can tell they genuinely care about each family. If you’re a parent who wants more than just an after-school activity, if you want your child to grow in confidence, focus, and resilience, this is the place. We’re incredibly gratefu
Great classes with a personable coach and staff. Beginner courses organized in a schedule format that makes it easy to follow. Professor who takes his time explaining techniques, answering questions and giving pointers. Classes feel safe to participate in as they promote working through techniques in a manner that is controlled and steady. Advancing in this gym is chronological with times attended and ability to demonstrate the skills. Facility offers parking, water, changing room bathrooms and sitting for those whom want to observe, all of this while also maintaining cleanliness. Wish to have discovered this earlier in my life here in Boulder.
