Been training with Dojo's adult classes since I was a white belt from when they opened a couple years ago and I have nothing but good things to say about this jiu jitsu academy! The clean, beautiful design and feel of the space speaks for itself. But it's the people who really make this a special place to train. Everyone who trains come from different backgrounds and skill levels, but also bring great attitudes and a desire to get better. The instructors are top notch, very approachable if you have questions, and make training fun and easy to learn. Since day one, DOJO has been a very welcoming and positive environment to train and I encourage anyone to join a class, no matter your experience level!
Two years ago My wife and I were looking for a place for our son and daughter to start practicing Jiu Jitsu. From the first day the instructors here have made us feel welcome and have taken care of our kids like family. The culture at Dojo by Leo Vieira is amazing. The kids are really kind to each other and are quick to make friends with the people just starting out. I couldn’t be happier with the gym. Last year, they began offering adult introduction to Jiu Jitsu classes. So I gave it a try and it’s been amazing. I’ve made lots of new friends and it’s a really cool group of people that are always happy to welcome in newcomers. If you’re new to Jiu Jitsu and want to see what it’s all about then this is the place for you. I fully recommend it.
I started my Jiu-Jitsu journey about 2 years ago when I had a new year’s resolution to learn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I’ve always stayed in shape by going to a gym and lifting weights, but I wanted something more challenging and a bit out of my comfort zone. When I started looking for a gym, I didn’t know much, but I knew I wanted to go to a place that had a positive yet challenging environment. From my experience, it’s easy to find one or the other, but not both. I tried a few places ranging from Costa Mesa to Long Beach and eventually found Dojo. At Dojo, there are no egos or anything like that; just a community of people working to improve their Jiu-Jitsu skills. The coaches are extremely knowledgeable and care about your progression through Jiu-Jitsu. Your peers are also very supportive and always training hard to improve their game while helping each other out. Whether you want to start a new hobby, start a new year’s resolution, or co
For a new comer to the sport/lifestyle, Dojo was the perfect way to gain knowledge and develops some techniques. The Professors at Dojo are skilled and comfortable with teaching anyone of any skill level; or even age. I have seen 6 year olds and 60 year olds; of course, the young ones are in a youth program. It is a great gym! Everyone is so easy to interact with, and friendly. Even though it’s a physical contact sport, everyone there is so helpful, mature and interested in helping you grow your knowledge that you always feel like you are safe and in good hands. Also, one of the instructors is a legend in the game. And I don’t mean, “he’s really good!” I mean, ask people in Brazil or ask those familiar with Jiu Jitsu worldwide and they have heard of Leo Viera. Moreover, this place is CLEAN! Despite being white mats, they are always looking fresh. In fact, I always see one of the Professors cleaning mats after and in between classes. All
I was in town visiting my friend who trains here and was treated like one of the family. Amazing vibes and the most friendly and welcoming group of individuals you'll find. They are truly just in it for the jiu jitsu and the fun of training the art. Thank you to Professors Alvin and George for being so welcoming and allowing me to drop-in and train (especially during Worlds!), and shout out to Victor (Viktor?) for being so helpful in getting me situated with the waivers and general flow of class. If I lived closer, I would absolutely train here. Wonderful dojo with wonderful people. Cannot recommend it enough!
Dojo is my sanctuary! As a long time Jiu Jitsu practitioner when I moved to Huntington Beach and had to leave my first school, Dojo was the best place I found after checking out all the schools in the area. Both brothers Alvin and Frank are super cool and Leo is one of the nicest Bjj legends I've ever met. I have been training there 4 years + now and I feel very comfortable there. I use jiu jitsu as a stress relief these days but this school is top notch for competitors and lifestyle players alike. Joining Checkmat has been everything I ever wanted in a jiu jitsu school, I just wish I found them earlier in my career. The vibe in this school can not be beaten and anyone who comes by will notice that right away. Highly recommend!
