My wife and I started training jiu-jitsu about 18+ months ago and chose 10th Planet Mission Viejo as our start. We can honestly say had we not started at 10th Planet Mission Viejo we may not have continued to train. The style of teaching and passion for fundamentals made the gym incredible welcoming for new comers with no experience. This gym offered for us the perfect blend of high quality instruction and intensity while still being an incredibly family oriented and welcoming place. There is emphasis placed on safety and taking care of your training partners above all else. The instruction is a very good blend of high level sport grappling, self defense, and overall focus on mobility and longevity. The jiu jitsu coaches, Head Coach Matt and Coach Abner are very approachable and are always willing to listen and answer any questions with decades of experience between them. Highly recommend if you are on the fence about training, starting
I've been training at [10th Planet Mission Viejo Jiu-Jitsu consistently for about 3 years and I absolutely love it here! The instructors are incredibly knowledgeable and passionate, and they make learning Jiu Jitsu fun and challenging. Specifically, the coaches are intentional with every lesson plan and endeavor to have each technique build on the previous lesson(s). The atmosphere at the studio is very welcoming and supportive, and I always feel comfortable asking questions and drilling with other students. Stated differently, this school attracts like-minded people. No ego. We are all here to learn and have fun. We are family. Finally, I will comment on the importance the coaches place on cleanliness and hygiene. If you have ever trained Jiu-Jitsu or wrestling, you know the importance of a sanitized dojo. I highly recommend Matt Salinas' 10th Planet Mission Viejo to anyone looking to learn Jiu Jitsu, wrestling, judo or Muay Thai.
As a blue belt in Jiu Jitsu, I recently had the opportunity to train at 10th Planet Mission Viejo. I must say, I was very impressed with the facility and the quality of instruction. The gym was well-equipped, with clean/new mats and some workout equipment. It was very clean and well-maintained. The instructors were knowledgeable and approachable, making each class both educational and enjoyable. Shout out to Matt and Keir The variety of classes offered cater to practitioners of all skill levels, from white belts to black belts. The training atmosphere was positive and supportive, with a strong sense of community among the students. Overall, I would highly recommend this gym to anyone looking for a top-notch Jiu Jitsu training experience. Whether you are a seasoned practitioner looking for new challenges, or a beginner looking to start your journey in the art, this gym provides an excellent environment for growth and development.
I’ve trained at a couple of other places, and learned well enough, but here I get a step by step break down of how to do a move, and a thorough explanation why we do it a certain way. Matt is an amazing coach, and fosters a super friendly and inviting atmosphere for all levels. There are no big egos flying around here and everyone is super friendly. My wife starting coming here and is doing Thai boxing with coach Chris, and she’s just added BJJ and loves it. Even one of my girls has starting coming to class. With zero previous training for either of them, they are excelling under Coach Matt, and Coach Chris (Thai boxing instructor). We make the drive from the IE to Mission Viejo just for the unparalleled instruction.

Best jiu jitsu in OC. I have trained at various schools all over Southern California and this one is by far the best. The coaches are very technical and the vibe is really good. I mostly only attend the 6am class which is taught by Ryan Loria who is insanely knowledgeable and also really cares to make sure everyone is learning. I have done a couple classes under Matt and Abner who are both also incredible. I think the thing that makes this place special is it's a very casual vibe and not militant like some old school studios. Also, the amount of knowledge getting taught is substantial. You will not get bored here and the coaches are always going out and learning what are the new techniques and strategies and bringing them back to the school. Lastly, everyone I've rolled with here is really good and respectful. There aren't any douchebags or bullies and the other students really act like teammates to help you get better. Update: I'm stil
